This chase is 100% within England's ability, its all down to partnerships. Four 50 run partnerships and they've won it. Anything less and it's touch and go.

    Nick, Sheffield

I'll confess that Nick sent this in before England lost two wickets in quick succession after drinks.

What?! How is that umpire's call? If that was real life the bails wouldn't come off.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.5 overs

Lamb lbw McGrath 28 (Eng 59-2)

McGrath comes in from wide of the crease - it hits low and ball tracking has it absolutely feathering the leg stump. It's umpire's call and England will keep their review, but that doesn't offer much solace - both their openers are back in the pavilion.

Tahlia McGrath celebrates trapping Emma Lamb lbwImage source, Getty Images

Big shouts from the Australia team, Tahlia McGrath thinks she has Emma Lamb trapped lbw. The finger has gone up.

Lamb decides to review after a conversation with Heather Knight, but it seemed a hesitant review.

A brilliant Test Match so far. Ecclestone just shading player of the match, but if Beaumont goes big in this innings as well then it's got to be her. Just ordered my free tickets for tomorrow, can't wait!

  8. Eng 59-1published at 11 overs

An expansive shot from new batter Heather Knight, attempting a big reverse sweep from her second ball. That was bold.

Gardner's final ball slips down leg and rattles down to the ropes for four byes.

That is such a disappointing way to get out for Tammy Beaumont. It was basically a loosener from Gardner.

That is much like the dismissal that Gardner fell out to off the bowling of Kate Cross.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.1 overs

    Beaumont c Mooney b Gardner 22 (Eng 55-1)

The hero of the first innings is gone!

Ash Gardner comes into the attack after drinks and draws the edge from Tammy Beaumont, jamming her bat down to clip the ball into the waiting hands of Beth Mooney.

Tom McCarron: The #WAshes is set up perfectly here. It's been an excellent opening Test, and I can't wait to see more of this team this summer. I think they'll go one better than the men's team and win this!

Roberto Colombi: Just for the whole series, if England can win this Test then 4-0 up in the points table, it will just set up the whole summer - for the neutral and for this partisan supporter

  12. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 9 overs

    Eng 55-0

Alyssa Healy brings in Tahlia McGrath in place of Kim Garth. Just the single off the over, her final ball keeping low and slipping under Emma Lamb's bat.

The cameras pick out Alana King sat in the stands. She's flipping a ball between her hands - keen to get back out there.

    The players are taking drinks.

  13. Eng 54-0published at 8 overs

Emma Lamb works Sutherland through point for two to bring up England's fifty.

Sutherland delivers a full ball onto Lamb's pads and she whips it through mid-wicket for four. Lovely shot.

I would give player of the match currently to Sophie Ecclestone because extracting wickets on this pitch has been hard.

  17. Eng 48-0published at 7 overs

A touch short from Kim Garth and a crouching Beaumont gets all her power behind it as she pulls to the boundary.

She then turns a leg-side delivery round the corner down to the fine-leg fence for four more.

Andrew Morris: Imagine if this Women's Ashes Test had been the usual 4 day affair; what a finish we would have been robbed of. It's great the sport has been put first and now we're in for a cracking finish.

  19. Eng 39-0published at 6 overs

Successive fours for Emma Lamb through the same area, half-edging and half-guiding the ball through the gap between the slips and gully. A delighted group of supporters conduct a rhythmic set of four signals.

Not the greatest of starts for new bowler Annabel Sutherland.

You can make a case that England shouldn't be making all the shots they're making, but this is enjoyable, positive cricket from the openers.
