You have to give credit to England, they are being positive and are trying to play what feels natural and that will be leaning towards white ball instead of red ball.

They are putting it back on Australia.

Alex Hartley said this new brand of English cricket would rather be positive than not.

  2. Eng 28-0published at 6 overs

Glorious drive from Tammy Beaumont, bringing her bat down from its high stance to place Garth's ball through a gap in the covers.

Annabel Sutherland gives chase and makes a full-length dive, missing the ball but dislodging the ropes.

Who on earth are they going to give player of the match to here?

  4. Eng 24-0published at 5 overs

Brown draws a play-and-miss from Lamb, stretching away from her body. Probably a shot she didn't need to make.

Much easier for the next ball, it's full and wide and Lamb times it through point for four.

A general view of Trent BridgeImage source, Reuters

Janet Hooper: I was nervous listening to that 1st ball of England's innings. Actually I'm nervous at every ball. All I can think is: "Please don't get out, please don't get out"

Marcus: This match is in England's grasp, theirs to lose.

  6. Eng 19-0published at 4 overs

Emma Lamb takes a single to backward point and hares off again. Ash Gardner picks up and hurls at the stumps - there's a miss-field and England's batters run one more.

Lamb then steps back into her crease and pulls Garth to deep square. It's pretty tight as she comes back for two - a direct hit from Darcie Brown would have seen her gone.

Sean Sutton: England need to now remember that there's the best part of a day and a session to chase down 268. Australia, meanwhile, could be about to remind us all why they're the best women's cricket side in history. Fasten your seatbelts.

Darcie Brown is blowing a cross seam delivery because she is worried about controlling the swing and Beaumont is continuing in terms of timing from when she left off.

  9. Eng 15-0published at 3 overs

Lamb hurries through a single into the covers and draws a shy at the stumps from the fielder there.

Short from Darcie Brown and Beaumont is right on top of the pull and the ball races away to the boundary. She then times its nicely through mid-on and the ball, past Brown who's fallen to the pitch and hurrying away to the ropes, the fresh gold branding on the ball spiralling as it eludes the chasing Alyssa Healy.

That was a brief cameo from the sun

It feels really nervy now. It's getting overcast now and with the floodnights on, you just feel there'll be something in this wicket.

  11. Not outpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    No, nothing there.

The ball struck the bottom of Beaumont's thigh pad and ball tracking has the ball skewing past leg stump.

    That's one review lost.

  12. Australia reviewpublished at 2 overs

    Eng 6-0

It's Kim Garth from the other end as the sun defies the floodlights and pushes out from behind a cloud.

Some nice away swing from the debutant in this over, she induces a waft from Tammy Beaumont and then a big shout as she the double centurion on the pad. No movement from umpire Anna Harris.

Some discussion - they're taking a punt and going upstairs.

  13. Eng 5-0published at 1 over

Lamb gets the first runs off the bat, pushing a ball to square leg.

The floodlights are on at Trent Bridge. We had some rain forecast for about now, but there's apparently no sign of any ominous clouds.

The benefit of Darcie Brown to England is that she struggles to control the ball sometimes.

Maybe Australia need to think about what England did, use the more experienced bowlers to control things and then bring in the younger bowlers to be dynamic.

  15. Eng 4-0published at 0.1 overs

Down leg from Brown and it races down to the boundary! Was there a touch on it? No, it's byes.

Good start - 264 runs needed.

The bowler I'm worried about is Alana King, she was getting the ball to spin. Tahlia McGarth will bowl wobble balls but there are no demon in this pitch.

Darcie Brown is at the top of her mark. Emma Lamb and first innings hero Tammy Beaumont are at the crease.

    268 runs needed.

A quick update from Zimbabwe where the men's Cricket World Cup qualifying tournament a pivotal third round of matches have reached their conclusion.

Scotland restricted Oman to 244-9 thanks to 5-53 from Chris Graves to seal a 76-run win which keeps them in second place in Group B.

They are behind Sri Lanka, who thrashed winless Ireland by 133 runs after bowling them out for 192, on net run rate.

Ireland's defeat means they cannot make the Super Six stage and ended their hopes of qualifying for the tournament proper in India later this year.
