  1. 'A missed opportunity'published at 12:49 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

England batter Danni Wyatt speaking to TMS: "I really thought we were going to do it this morning, so I'm pretty disappointed. It was pretty hard to bat out there. Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone had a good effort out there.

"There is a sense of missed opportunity, we will have a chat in the changing room about it. There are a lot of positives so we have to try to dust this down and smash them in the white ball stuff. There's a few tired bodies out there and now we just need to dust ourselves off and get ready for the next challenge.

"Ultimately, we didn't get enough runs but that's just the game. We need to think of the positives. I woke up really excited and did my best which wasn't enough in the end. It's very different to ODIs and it's been challenging. Australia are the world's best team for a reason, they have a number of world class players but so do we but we'll feel confident going into the T20s."

Heather Knight, Nat Sviver-Brunt and Sophia Dunkley accounted for just 25 runs in England's second innings. Simply not good enough from the middle order in an Ashes Test.

Ebony Rainford-Brent said on commentary a few days ago that Australia's standards are so high that if England had a really poor session, or two, they would find themselves chasing the game.

The evening sessions on days three and four have proved pivotal.

Australia's Ashleigh Gardner ends with figures of 8-66 in England's second innings.

She is just the second woman, after India's Neetu David in 1995 - also against England - to take eight in an innings of a Test.

Her match figures of 12-165 are the second best in women's Tests. Only Shaiza Khan - 13-226 for Pakistan v West Indies in 2004 - has taken more wickets in a match. No other bowler has taken more than 11.

Tammy Beaumont won your vote for player of the match for her record-breaking double hundred with 49% of the vote.

Sophie Ecclestone collected 28%, Ash Garder 17% and Annabel Sutherland with 6%.

We'll find out who gets the actual award when the presentation begins shortly.

Severely disappointed. That was the best opportunity we have had in a decade. Just sad, really disappointed.

That game was in our control. Pressure does magnificent things and terrible things. Australia have walked away with a series clinching win and Ash Gardner has had the series of her life.

  8. champagne moment

Australia win by 89 runspublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

    Australia are all smiles.

Will England look back to day three with a tinge of regret perhaps?

Their last four wickets went down for 15 runs with Australia's total in sight, and they then produced a poor bowling performance in the hour or so that followed.

    Wyatt lbw b Gardner 54

    Absolutely plumb.

Danni Wyatt realised she had to start scoring big runs from somewhere and defaults to the sweep shot against Ash Gardner.

The Aussie spinner's control has been masterful, however. She anticipates the shot from Wyatt and pushes it through to strike the knee of the England batter.

The ball-tracking technology shows that would have hit middle stump.

Trapped bang in front. The only thing that could save Wyatt is an under edge...

It's given out. It looks out. It will probably be out.

Lauren Filer cannot survive the over as Ash Gardner expertly beats the England tailender's defensive prod and bowls her on the back foot.

    Mastery from the Australia spinner.

  15. Eng 177-8published at 48.2 overs

A signal of intent from Danni Wyatt as she attempts to slog sweep off Ash Garner.

The ball balloons up over the wicketkeeper's head but lands safely to bring Lauren Filer on strike with four balls to face.

I'd managed to suppress the temptation to talk of Headingley, Stokes and all that thus far. Didn't want to put the mockers on it.

Tahlia McGrath hangs an awkward tempter outside off stump to Lauren Filer with her third delivery and the England batter waggles her willow but manages to avoid feathering it to Alyssa Healy.

Filer fends off a couple of tricky balls in the remainder of the over to give Danni Wyatt the strike.

We could have a Ben Stokes and Jack Leach situation here.

Danni Wyatt is still there. She's played the percentages so far.

Time to cut loose maybe? She's running out of partners now.

What a performance from Gardner, she is turning the ball and picking up wickets. It's been sensational and she has performed in a world-class way.

Sophie Ecclestone is on her way back to the pavilion.

The England spinner was pinning her hopes on height, perhaps, but the ball-tracking technology shows it would have gone on to hit middle stump.

Ash Gardner has six wickets now. She's been incredible for Australia.
