  1. Eng 160-7published at 40 overs

"Oh my word" says Alyssa Healy, stood up to the stumps, as Sophie Ecclestone pulls Kim Garth into the leg side for a shot fraught with risk.

England could have taken a second run, but decide to accept the single.

Danni Wyatt works the fifth ball of the over into the covers to keep the strike.

Three wickets for Australia. England need 108 runs.

The first women's Test series between England and Australia was played in 1934-35, which England won.

However, the contest was not officially called 'the women's Ashes' until 1998, when a signed miniature bat was burned (in a wok!) before the first Test at Lord's, and the ashes were placed inside a wooden cricket ball to make a trophy.

In 2013, a new women's Ashes trophy was produced, with the original trophy mounted in the centre of a larger frame.

  3. Eng 157-7published at 39 overs

Sophie Ecclestone is off the mark from Ash Gardner's third delivery, albeit not entirely convincingly as she attempts to drive straight but sees the ball squirt through the point region.

    Three runs off the over.

Ecclestone has got a mammoth job in front of her. It's a big ask given the situation.

Healy was as surprised as anyone, she first went and apologised to Ash Gardner thinking it wasn't out.

  5. Eng 154-7published at 38 overs

Danni Wyatt moves into the forties by rocking back and working Kim Garth into the leg side for a couple, then pushing a single through the covers.

Sophie Ecclestone defends the final two balls of the over.

"Stay patient Kimmy..." urges Alyssa Healy from behind the stumps.

    That was remarkable.

When the umpires took it upstairs, everyone here just shrugged because it was just the usual obligatory check.

It was so, so close - and the green bails are what made it more difficult to see but Amy Jones' bat was on the line, not behind it, so the right decision.

Some performance from Ash Gardner. Considering she isn't Australia's frontline spinner, she has been brilliant.

Cenuijmu: For the Women's Ashes series the Test match should be worth four points and the other matches should be three points. That would balance it out better.

The good thing is this Test isn't worth six points anymore!

  9. Eng 151-7published at 37.2 overs

A lot hinges on Danni Wyatt here, who has looked in good touch for her 38. Sophie Ecclestone has joined her at the crease as Kim Garth begins a new over.

All of sudden 268 seems a long way off for England.

Jones st Healy b Gardner 4 (Eng 151-7)

Bad news. Amy Jones got her bat on the line, but not behind it. The line itself belongs to the fielding team.

Big wicket for Australia and they are delighted.

Poor shot selection from Jones, who was on the move before the ball was bowled by Ash Gardner. A little bit premeditated having been so diligent and defensive.

There's plenty of time in this game, still.

  12. Umpire reviewpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 26 June 2023

Amy Jones uses her feet again, but the ball misses the outside edge, and Alyssa Healy whips the bails off.

The Australian wicketkeeper a little late on the stumping after a fumble, but has her English counterpart got her bat back beyond the line in time?

    This has been sent upstairs.

  13. Eng 151-6published at 36.2 overs

Amy Jones is hit on the pad by one which turns from Ash Gardner's first ball.

The shackles are broken by Jones next ball as she advances ever so slightly down the pitch and square drives beyond extra cover for four to get off the mark.

Turned on TMS just in time to hear Kate Cross get out. I’m clearly bad luck, so for the good of the team I’ve switched it right back off and will just stick with the live text…

Australia won't mind that, they want Wyatt to be playing that shot through the deep third.

They have some very wide slips and have got the plan for her. It's about whether Wyatt is able to stick to her plan.

It feels really tense at the minute. It's a game of cat and mouse. Australia know where she likes to score and so does Wyatt.

    Target 268

Danni Wyatt backs away and opens the face of the bat before she slaps the first ball of Kim Garth through gully for four.

Wyatt looks assured here. Her stature helping her to get to grips with this day five pitch.

"Awsome Kim, backing you here Kimmy G" chirps Aussie captain Alyssa Healy from behind the stumps as Wyatt leaves and blocks the remainder of the over.

Still feels on a knife edge this one.

We're debating the player of the match award if Ash Gardner gets her 10-wicket haul.

The consensus is pretty definitive that she'd get it over Sophie Ecclestone if it contributes to an Australian win.

  18. Aus 143-6published at 35 overs

Danni Wyatt picks up single of the second ball of Ash Gardner's over to bring Amy Jones back on strike. England's wicketkeeper patiently sees off the next four balls. She's 12 deliveries without scoring.

Here's the wicket of Kate Cross which fell moments ago if you want to take a look. A shot she would probably leave in the locker given another chance.

This is the partnership that will be key for England. I like the way Wyatt is playing and if Jones ever wanted to score runs against Australia, the time to do it is now.

  20. Eng 142-6published at 34 overs

Change of bowling from Australia as Kim Garth replaces Tahlia McGrath.

Dublin-born Garth played for Ireland for over a decade before she switched allegiance to Australia in 2020.

Danni Wyatt ticking along nicely, carefully playing to her strengths and defending when required. She picks up a single of Garth's first ball.

Amy Jones, who is not yet off the mark, happy to see off the next deliveries without scoring.

    It's tense at Trent Bridge.
