The skill level between these two sides isn't that big, but Australia are a much more athletic team. That makes a difference in the field, and when running between the wickets.

    Wyatt b Schutt 7 (Eng 20-1)

Danni Wyatt has lost her off stump this time!

The over after an extremely lucky escape, Wyatt isn't quite so lucky so this.

There's a little bit of movement for Megan Schutt but it is a pretty loose drive from Wyatt.

Dunkley and Wyatt will look to score boundaries every ball, they're very aggressive so you have to bowl line and length.

That's a really fortunate piece of play for England.

I still can't believe that bail stayed on. Darcie Brown bowls with some serious pace too so that's extremely unlucky.

Salt is immediately rubbed in the wound too as Wyatt latches on some width and crashes Brown to the fence for her first boundary.

Cricviz's captaincy grid, which suggests ideal match-ups, says Darcie Brown is a bad option to bowl against Sophia Dunkley. She's perfect to bowl at Danni Wyatt though - assuming the bails are not glued on.

  7. Eng 8-0published at 1.1 overs

    What's happened here!?!

Darcie Brown has absolutely smashed Danni Wyatt's off stump but the bails, despite initially jumping out of the groove, drop back in place.

Australia are appealing for the caught behind because they thought it was a nick initially.

There's laughter all round in the end.

  8. England 'want to be fearless'published at 18:40 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

England's skipper Heather Knight speaking to BBC Sport: "We're focusing on nothing but today, we are disappointed with the Test match but T20 is a format we love.

"The support has been amazing, a lot of people were here before we got here and we're just going to try get them on our side.

"We want to be fearless and we bat deep so having that security is nice. It's a good pitch and a shorter boundary so it will be a good game."

  9. 'We love that England have been vocal'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

Australia's Alyssa Healy speaking to BBC Sport: "We love white ball, we've had success with it and we know it will be tough. England back themselves in this format but I am looking forward to this.

"We're here to win as many games as possible and trying to get the two points each time. It's a negative way to look at it if we're just trying to scrape over those eight points we know England have their backs against the wall but the will come out swinging.

"We haven't played them in a long time and they have been vocal, we love that we just want to absorb the pressure."

  10. Eng 8-0published at 1 over

    Good start for England.

Sophia Dunkley pierces the gap in the covers and the ball runs off the spare pitches and they get a couple.

The right-hander then times it even better and picks up the first boundary of the night.

  11. Eng 1-0published at 0.3 overs

Sophia Dunkley is off the mark with a quick single to mid-on.

I'm sat in the Hollies stand and I genuinely think the cheer for the little car carrying the ball was louder than the cheer for the teams...

Megan Schutt, who missed the Test in order to be fully fit for the white-ball games, will bowl the first over.

Umpires Sue Redfern and Anna Harris are out in the middle.

The Australia team are not far behind, with Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley about to join them.

I like the addition of Dani Gibson with fitness concerns around Nat Sciver-Brunt's bowling. She's a hard-hitting all-rounder and will give an extra bowling option. Australia's team looks strong on paper, even without Meg Lanning.

  16. 'It's a huge gap' - where are England's left-handerspublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

England go into this T20 series against Australia in the Women's Ashes with no left-handed batters in their 16-player squad.

It is a continuing trend, with a lack of options available to head coach Jon Lewis and captain Heather Knight.

It leaves a "huge gap" in England's skillset says Lewis, with a combination of left and right-handers often picked so bowlers are unable to get into a rhythm and batters can capitalise on any short boundaries.

BBC Sport have worked with data analysts CricViz to crunch the numbers and work out if the issue is isolated to England.

  18. 'Heading in the right direction, but it must be quicker'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

One of the best days of my life and the saddest was when we won the Women's World Cup final in 2017.

Our families weren't invited into the changing room to celebrate and that was a very sad moment for me and all the other players but we have moved on.

We have all female groundstaff, female umpires and the progress to me has been slow, it's heading in the right direction although I want to see it quicker.

  19. Report 'tough' but 'it will make a change'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

    Alex Hartley

It stings that you've experienced it from grassroot right through to professional level. When you used to turn up to cricket people would ask: 'Whose girlfriend are you?' or 'Why are you playing?' or there would be inappropriate comments playing men's' cricket and at county level sometimes you don't feel comfortable at your own club.

It's been really tough but I'm really glad this report has come out because it will make a change and that's where things start, it's hard because it's real and they're things we've experienced as players and things have to change now.

Clare Connor speaking about what the next steps are after the findings of the ICEC report: "We've held the mirror up now, we've got a huge number of recommendations which we are absorbing, the first which was to send an apology to those who have been discriminated again, from a women's game perspective, there are very strong recommendations and we will be absorbing those and consulting over the coming months about how to implement as many of them as possible.

"The majority of the recommendations don't have a huge price tag attached to them. They're about culture change, leadership, accountability, kindness and how we make people feel in this game and several of the recommendations do have a higher price tag attached and we will have to re-profile investment and what the phasing of the responses over the comings months are."
