Very hard chance. You can even see Sue Redfern the umpire ducking away. That was a half-chance, it was pretty tough.

Mooney is being tied down two games in a row - eight runs off 14.

  2. dropped catch

Mooney dropped on eightpublished at 5.3 overs

    Aus 31-1

I feel incredibly harsh calling this a drop but Charlie Dean gets a good hand to it, so it's got to be done.

Beth Mooney crunches a straight drive back at the bowler, but it's high to Dean's left and she does well to get a hand to it.

It saves a certain boundary - or Sue Redfern's face! One or the other.

  3. Aus 27-1published at 5 overs

    Brilliant stuff from Lauren Bell.

She offers one bit of width to Tahlia McGrath and gets punished with a crunching four but apart from that the England seamer is bang on the money.

There's oohs and aahs from England too as a rising delivery beats the advancing McGrath.

This is a good start from England.

  4. Aus 23-1published at 4 overs

    Good fielding!

Nat Sciver-Brunt, sore knee or not, does well to get across to her left and cut out a drive from Tahlia McGrath.

There's some confusion in the running, but Sciver-Brunt is off balance and her throw back to Charlie Dean is a bit loopy and weak and the potential run-out opportunity passes by.

Sue Redfern at The Oval had two very difficult decisions as third umpire. This one was as easy as it gets.

Alyssa Healy doesn't even think of reviewing that!

  7. wicket

    Healy lbw b Dean 16 (Aus 20-1)

    You're welcome.

Charlie Dean has swapped ends and she gets one to skid down the slope and Alyssa Healy, who is stuck deep in her crease, is trapped plumb in front.

    Lovely bowling from Dean.

Sophie Ecclestone gave up on that. But actually the ball plugged and she had to chase it. She was not enthusiastic about it.

  9. Aus 20-0published at 3 overs

Alyssa Healy looks in really good touch. She lifts Lauren Bell over mid-on, but the ball plugs and Sophie Ecclestone scurries after it and keeps Australia down to a couple.

Bell beats Beth Mooney with a beauty to end the over.

Sue Redfern gestures a wide very slowly. Almost if she's guiding a jumbo jet into land.

Neither of Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney have played at Lord's for Australia. They'll be getting a sense of it - you feel like you're going to fall over your toes when you're facing down that slope.

  13. Aus 16-0published at 2 overs

To be fair to Sciver-Brunt she is reaching down a little bit to her left to try and catch that.

It's not a simple chance, but it is one that England's star player may be disappointed to shell.

  14. dropped catch

Healy dropped on 13published at 1.5 overs

    Aus 16-0

    Oh!

The ball after using her feet superbly to create an angle and gap through mid-wicket, Alyssa Healy has offered a return catch to Nat Sciver-Brunt.

The England all-rounder gets both hands to it, but it pops out.

Should she do better? Maybe. It doesn't fly back like some caught-and-bowled opportunities do.

I guess England are going to have to manage Nat Sciver-Brunt through the series. It might come to the last match to decide the Ashes.

  16. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

All-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt will bowl the second over.

She's been struggling with a knee injury so England have been managing how many overs she bowls.

Good comeback from Charlie Dean. She concedes just two singles from the final four balls of the over.

Still, a good start for Australia.

  19. Aus 8-0published at 0.2 overs

    Make it back-to-back fours.

Charlie Dean drags one down and Alyssa Healy turns it round the corner.

That was one of those moments for Sophia Dunkley where you want the earth to swallow you up. She should have stopped that.
