Surrey beat Middlesex by 73 runs

A superb win for Surrey and they've now won their last seven straight against Middlesex.

It was the Curran show in the first half as Tom made 68 and Sam 50 in a stand of 118 for the third wicket.

199-6 seemed plenty and so it proved as only Max Holden really showed for the home side with 43 from 23 balls.

But Middlesex tumbled away from 93-3 to 122 all out.

They now travel to defending champions Hampshire tomorrow while Surrey play Kent at The Oval tomorrow.

Surrey beat Middlesex by 73 runs

Surrey captain Sam Curran tells Sky Sports:

"The message was to take the form and confidence from the Championship into the T20 and we've put on a good performance.

"We've got the luxury of floating a lot of batsmen and we're in a very lucky position.

"Hopefully we can have a consistent side throughout the tournament and the schedule means we won't lose too many players."

  4. 'There's still room for improvement'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 25 May 2023

Surrey beat Middlesex by 73 runs

    Mark Church
Surrey commentator for BBC Radio London

I think Surrey will firstly be very happy with that win, but they'll think there'll be room for improvements in all departments too. As in the Championship, someone has always stepped up to the plate with a big performance.

Middlesex shouldn't beat themselves up - this is a very good side with a lot of franchise experience.

The last time Surrey won the T20 was 2003. With what they've got at their disposal they are a very good squad and if they play to their potential they'll be there or there abouts at the end of the competition.

They will be very happy with the winning start and will be looking to back it up against the Kent Spitfires tomorrow night.

"We've got two sides here in very different stages of their development and it was always going to be a tough ask for us.

"It's an extremely high standard this competition and you're going to get hurt if you miss."

    Middlesex 120-8 (14 overs) v Surrey 199-6

    Kevin Hand
Middlesex commentator for BBC Radio London

The game is up for Middlesex. They have got to limit the damage here. Net run rate is important. They were always up against it against this strong side but they have been pummelled here against a Surrey side who are without several very good players, not least Jason Roy who had to pull out during the warm-up.

It's not the start Middlesex would have wanted but they have to shake this off, and quickly.

  15. 'Middlesex have thrown it away'published at 20:38 British Summer Time 25 May 2023

    Middlesex 98-6 (10.3 overs) v Surrey 199-6

    Kevin Hand
Middlesex commentator for BBC Radio London

They were ahead of the game and ahead of the rate, but they were behind on wickets. They were playing like they had to try and win it in the next two balls. The problem is you can lose it in two balls and we might be seeing that. They were ahead of the game. It feels like they have thrown the wickets away.

He opens up the 10th with a lofted drive wide of deep cover for four.

But then sweeps and is cleaned up by one that skids on a little.

Huge wicket and maybe the game?

Holden looking in great touch here and Middlesex up with the rate.
