Ryan Higgins arrives and immediately drives superbly past point for four.

But otherwise a decent over from Australian Sean Abbott with the big wicket of Pieter Malan.

Pieter Malan will be really disappointed. He's whipped Sean Abbott straight down Overton's throat at mid-wicket. He played Sunil Narine perfectly in the previous over too. It's a big wicket for Surrey.

    Middlesex 61-2 (6 overs) v Surrey 199-6

Sunil Narine to complete the Powerplay.

Pieter Malan gets down and reverse sweeps him over short-third man for four.

Then drives over the head of extra-cover for another boundary.

Another attempted reverse, not timed, and just over the head of the fielder runnings back from backward point.

A decent first six and Middlesex are in the game.

    Middlesex 50-2 (5 overs) v Surrey 199-6

Max Holden is out there now and he gives himself some room to drive Sam Curran up and over cover and all the way into the Mound Stand for six.

Holden then goes leg side and pulls wide of deep mid-wicket for four.

And then pulls again stepping to leg and gets four more wide of deep square.

The chase feels properly under way as 16 come off the over.

  6. 'Not sure why Holden is at four'published at 20:11 British Summer Time 25 May 2023

    Middlesex 34-2 (4 overs) v Surrey 199-6

    Kevin Hand

Max Holden, Middlesex's former T20 opener, comes in in the fourth over. I'm a little bit confused why he has dropped down to four when you're losing the left-hander, right-hander balance - one of the ideas, the mantras that Adam Gilchrist was big on when he was at Middlesex.

Pieter Malan plays a delicate uppercut up and over third man and the pace of Gus Atkinson sees this fly all the way for six.

    Middlesex 27-2 (3.4 overs) v Surrey 199-6

Back of a length from Gus Atkinson.

Joe Cracknell goes to pull, gets plenty of it, but not enough to clear deep square and it's an easy catch on the fence.

    Middlesex 26-1 (3 overs) v Surrey 199-6

Sean Abbott into the attack and gets flicked to long leg to open the third over.

And is then heaved away into the Mound Stand for a big six by Joe Cracknell.

Pieter Malan twice targets the leg side and the second time gets a single to deep square.

Pieter Malan is a perfect overseas player for Middlesex. Very good at all three formats, very experienced at all three formats. He is a very good player indeed.

He's got outstanding figures in all formats and he was brilliant in Test match cricket. He looked like a proper Test opener, even though his average was only 26.

And now Gus Atkinson with ball in hand at the Nursery End.

Pieter Malan gives himself some room and drives up and over cover for four.

Two dots to end the over.

Replays show some really poor running from Steve Eskinazi.

He stopped for some reason and that's what did for him.

  12. Postpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 25 May 2023

    Middlesex 6-1 (1 over) v Surrey 199-6

Ideal start for Surrey removing Middlesex's best T20 player.

    Middlesex 2-1 (0.4 overs) v Surrey 199-6

    Oh dear!

Steve Eskinazi drives a low full toss hard to extra-cover.

It's a chance but put down by Gus Atkinson.

But he then recovers to throw to the non-striker's end as Eskinazi tries a sharp single.

Jamie Overton gathers superbly, breaks the stumps and Eskinazi is short.

    Huge early blow.

    Middlesex v Surrey 199-6 (20 overs)

    Mark Church

That was a very fine last over indeed from Tom Helm, who had three in the over.

200 exactly for Middlesex to win, even I have worked out they need 10 an over. I like that maths, it's easy.

It's well open, at the moment.

  16. Middlesex to chase 200published at 19:46 British Summer Time 25 May 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 199-6

A superb partnership between the Curran brothers has given Surrey plenty to defend after they won the toss.

Tom made 68 from 47 and Sam 50 from 33.

But Surrey never properly kicked on to the 220 region they might have been targeting having been very well set.

Middlesex have a big chase ahead of them but won't feel they're out of the game.

  17. SURREY POST 199-6published at 19:43 British Summer Time 25 May 2023

    Middlesex v Surrey 199-6 (20 overs)

The final ball is whipped leg side by Jordan Clark for just a single and Surrey have fallen short of 200.

What an outstanding final over from Tom Helm.

Three singles and three wickets and Helm has done a superb job to give Middlesex some momentum perhaps.

Laurie Evans out for the final five balls.

He drives to deep point only for a single.

Back to Jamie Overton, who has the short boundary leg side.

But he tries to go off side and picks out deep cover.

    Another important wicket for Middlesex.
