James Vince made 103 from 48 balls as Hampshire won by 118 runs at Essex.

What a Friday night that was!

Somerset strengthened their grip on South Group with a demolition of winless Middlesex to make it five-from-five while Surrey and previously unbeaten Essex lost against Gloucestershire and Hampshire respectively.

James Vince hit a century before Hampshire skittled their hosts for 96 - their third lowest ever T20 total and Glamorgan joined Surrey on six points courtesy of a thumping win over Kent.

Worcestershire remain perfect in the North Group after a big win at Trent Bridge.

Birmingham Bears slip to second after a surprise first defeat at Derbyshire Falcons and Durham leapfrogged Lancashire into third with a six wicket win over the Lightning, while Chris Lynn scored an unbeaten 110 as Northants battered winless Leicestershire.

Thanks for your company. There's plenty more T20 action for you over the weekend.

Perfect way to finish off for Derbyshire as Zaman Khan collects his third wicket, yorking Jake Lintott.

Back-to-back wins for the Falcons, then - and a first defeat of the tournament for the Bears.

  5. Birmingham Bears need 25 off last overpublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 150-8 (target 175) v Derbys

Zak Chappell concedes just nine off the penultimate over, finishing with 3-32.

It would have been fewer but for Henry Brookes' swipe for four that flew past the outstretched fielder's hand.

So 25 for the Bears to win from the final over... surely not?

  6. Postpublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 141-8 (target 175) v Derbys

Henry Brookes hasn't given this up yet... he slams Zaman Khan over the top for six to leave the Bears needing 34 from 12.

They lost a second wicket in that 18th over, with Danny Briggs run out by Haider Ali's direct hit from the deep.

  7. wicket

WICKET Barnard lbw b Zaman 27published at 21:37 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 134-7 (target 175) v Derbys

A sigh of relief among the Falcons' faithful as Ed Barnard tries to scoop Zaman Khan, misses, and is given out leg before.

Birmingham are surely on the verge of their first defeat now.

  8. GLOUCS BEAT SURREY BY 2 WICKETSpublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 2 June 2023
    Breaking

    Gloucestershire 127-8 v Surrey 124-9

Chris Jordan tries for a yorker at the start of the final over but his line isn't spot-on and Tom Smith tickles it fine for the winning boundary.

Surrey's total was well below what they would expect from themselves as David Payne and Matt Taylor each took three wickets.

But Gloucestershire had to fight all the way for their second win of the competition as Sam Curran claimed 3-20.

Surrey now have a 3-2 record ahead of their visit to Canterbury to play Kent Spitfires on Sunday.

  9. Postpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 127-6 (target 175) v Derbys

Good over by George Scrimshaw, who produces a couple of fast yorkers and gives away just five.

Birmingham need 43 from the last three overs.

  10. Postpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Gloucs 123-8 v Surrey 124-9

Tom Smith shovels his first ball to square leg for one.

Six balls are left - Gloucestershire need two runs.

    Surely that is a formality.

  11. HAMPSHIRE BEAT ESSEX BY 118 RUNSpublished at 21:35 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Essex 96 v Hampshire 214-8

    Wow.

Unbeaten Essex are bowled out for 96 with 35 balls remaining. Their third lowest ever T20 total and lowest since Somerset bowled then out for 82 inside 11 overs in June 2011

James Vince takes his third catch, fittingly, to seal it. He earlier hit a blistering 103 to steer his side to a total of 214-8.

Liam Dawson finishes with 4-21 while Nathan Ellis claimed 3-10 and Scott Currie 3-21.

A comprehensive Hawks win at a packed Chelmsford.

  12. wicket

    WICKET Lamb c Evans b S Curran 11published at 21:34 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Gloucs 122-8 v Surrey 124-9

Danny Lamb tries to end the game with a six, but doesn't get hold of it and holes out to Laurie Evans. That is 3-19 now for Sam Curran, but it looks like it's going to be in a losing cause.

  13. Postpublished at 21:33 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 127-6 (target 175) v Derbys

Birmingham pick up the 12 they need from Mark Watt's final over, with Danny Briggs reverse sweeping him for four.

Ed Barnard is still there at the other end, with 24 from 16 balls and Derbyshire haven't quite iced this yet. 48 needed from 24.

  14. Postpublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Essex 94-9 v Hampshire - target 215

Liam Dawson has 4-21 from his four overs. Immense.

Essex's lowest ever T20 total against Hampshire was 115 all out... 17 years ago.

They have only been been bowled out for double-figures three times.

    They couldn't could they?

  15. Gloucs need nine off 12 ballspublished at 21:30 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Gloucs 116-7 v Surrey 124-9

Chris Jordan will bowl the 18th and Matt Taylor is immediately off the mark with one run.

Gloucestershire are content to try and rotate the strike until Danny Lamb clips the Surrey paceman over mid-wicket for four.

Nine needed off the last two overs.

  16. wicket

WICKET Mousley c McKiernan b Chappell 36published at 21:27 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 115-6 v Derbys

It's a third wicket for Zak Chappell, with Dan Mousley launching him high on the leg side and Mattie McKiernan the man who manages to pick the ball out of the gloom.

Derbyshire needed that wicket and they're clear favourites going into the last five overs, with the Bears needing 60.

  17. Postpublished at 21:26 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Gloucs 106-7 v Surrey 124-9

Matt Taylor collects a welcome boundary to third man off Gus Atkinson and adds a single to keep the strike for the start of the 18th over. Another 17 required off 18.

  18. Postpublished at 21:24 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Essex 84-7 v Hampshire - target 215

Essex v HampshireImage source, Rex Features

It's very quiet in Chelmsford. Essex are heading for their first defeat after losing four wickets in 15 balls.

Liam Dawson has 3-14 off three overs, Tom Westley cracks him straight to James Vince who has a second catch to go along with his century.

Simon Harmer is the new man.

The best Essex partnership was the 27 for the opening wicket which came from 16 balls.

  19. Postpublished at 21:24 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Birmingham 105-5 (target 175) v Derbys

A glimmer of hope for Birmingham as they take 12 from this Luis Reece over, with Ed Barnard and Dan Mousley hitting a boundary apiece.

The pair have put on 39 now and the Bears need 70 from 36 balls.

  20. wicket

    WICKET O Price c S Curran b Atkinson 25published at 21:21 British Summer Time 2 June 2023

    Gloucs 102-7 v Surrey 124-9

Still hope for Surrey as Ollie Price tries to pull a ball from Gus Atkinson and top edges to Sam Curran at deep mid-wicket.

Two balls later, Jack Taylor follows for one as he is caught above his head by Chris Jordan at mid-off.

Gloucestershire need another 22 from 21 balls but are running out of wickets.
