    Bears 19-0 v Northants

The Bears are getting into their stride. A superbly timed ramp by Alex Davies, almost directly over the keeper, brings him six off David Willey and he ends the second over with a more orthodox pull shot for four.

  2. 6 runs

    Glamorgan v Essex 24-0

    Wow.

Timm van der Gugten starts the second over and Robin Das pulls his first delivery over mid-wicket for a magnificent maximum.

The next one is square cut for four and Das follows up by coming down the pitch and strong-arming the Dutch seamer over mid-on for another.

A flying start by Essex - two overs completed.

    Glamorgan v Essex 8-0

Well it wasn't pretty, but Feroze Khushi has the first boundary of the game in Cardiff. His bottom hand came off the bat as he tried to smash Jamie McIlroy through the off-side, but he made a good enough contact to get it away for the game's first boundary.

    Glos v Somerset 8-0 (1 over)

Gloucestershire won the toss and put Somerset in at Bristol.

Steady start for the Cidermen, with Will Smeed hitting his first ball to the fence as he and Tom Banton pick up eight from the first over.

    Kent v Hampshire 5-1

A huge blow for Hampshire as captain James Vince, who started tonight as the leading run-scorer in this summer's T20 Blast, is clean bowled first ball by Fred Klaassen.

  6. Postpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 9 June 2023

    Bears 0-0 v Northants

Birmingham Bears give a T20 debut to Hasan Ali this evening, which should make up to some degree for the absence of Chris Woakes.

He won't be needed just yet as they will bat first and openers Alex Davies and Rob Yates are out in the middle.

    Yorks 0-0 v Worcs

So, can Yorkshire make it five in a row?

Worcestershire won when the two sides met at New Road on 26 May, chasing down a target of 176.

The unchanged Vikings have won the toss and will again bat first.

Somerset go into Friday's set of fixtures two points clear at the top of the South Group, despite losing for the first time in this year's competition against Hampshire on Wednesday.

Defending champions Hampshire have recovered from a slow start to win four consecutive games.

James Vince's side are alongside Surrey in joint-second, with Surrey taking on a Sussex team that ended a four-game losing run at Lord's yesterday.

Perhaps the key game, though, is between Glamorgan and Essex - both have won four of their six matches to date and the winner will boost their quarter-final chances, as well as denting those of their opposition.

It's pretty congested at the top of North Group with just four points separating leaders Notts Outlaws from Northamptonshire Steelbacks in eighth.

Notts put back to back defeats behind them by beating Durham last night - but the real form team at the moment are Yorkshire, who take on second-placed Worcestershire in search of a fifth successive win.

Birmingham Bears have stuttered of late, losing their last three, and they will be without England all-rounder Chris Woakes for their home game against the Steelbacks.

All still to play for, therefore, in the race for a top-four finish and a place in the quarter-finals.

Cricket neutrals - has anyone ever met a 'neutral'? - must surely be hoping to see Middlesex win a T20 Blast match soon.

It is almost a calendar year since they did so and they lost for the eighth time in this season's competition as Sussex won by four runs at Lord's despite Stevie Eskinazi's 94 not out off 62 balls in their unsuccessful attempt to chase down a target of 182.

At Trent Bridge, Notts Outlaws became the new leaders of North Group as they defeated Durham by 26 runs.

They made 187-7 despite Nathan Sowter's 4-29, improving his tally to 17 wickets, and although Bas de Leede made 58 off 41 balls, the visitors were restricted to 161-9 in reply.

    "Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours....."

A worthy sentiment, but sometimes neighbours can find themselves at odds.

And that is certainly the case in half of this evening's eight T20 Blast matches when counties that share a border will be in opposition.

Welcome to our coverage. The entertainment begins at 18:30.
