Somerset shrugged off their first defeat of the 2023 Blast earlier in the week as Will Smeed's 94 led them to an 80-run win over Gloucestershire.

They are two points ahead of Surrey, who made the fourth highest score in the English T20 tournament, with Laurie Evans hitting 93 in their 258-6 against Sussex Sharks.

Kent Spitfires upset the form book as Daniel Bell-Drummond's 89 helped them to victory over Hampshire Hawks.

Notts Outlaws remain on top of North Group following their win over Derbyshire, two points clear of Birmingham Bears, who managed to defend a score of only 137 all out against Northamptonshire.

The biggest advance was made by Yorkshire, who leapt five places to third - behind the Bears on net run rate - as James Wharton's unbeaten hundred saw them to victory over Worcestershire.

Elsewhere, Rishi Patel hit a superb 104 off 49 balls as Leicestershire beat Durham for only their second win of the competition.

There's been some big margins tonight but I think I'm right in saying that's the biggest.

Surrey win by a whopping 124 runs - that's their biggest ever win by runs in T20. It's also the third time they have beaten Sussex by 100 runs or more in the competition.

Sussex were bowled out in only 14.5 overs.

That's probably enough damning statistics for Sussex fans to read!

Sunil Narine took the final wicket and finished with 3-12, with Cameron Steel 3-41, with Tom Clark (43) the only Sharks player to register much of a score.

Another one bites the dust as Surrey close in on victory - actually make that two.

Dan Ibrahim is caught at long on by Sam Curran off Cameron Steel after hitting 17 from 13.

That brought Tymal Mills to the crease and he hit a four with his first ball, then got out with his second, stumped by Jamie Smith, with Steel claiming his third wicket.

One to go for Surrey to wrap-up the points.

Sunil Narine has made a big difference since being brought on to bowl.

He's caught and bowled Fynn Hudson-Prentice and his figures are currently 2-5 from two overs - impressive stuff.

Sussex are up against it now.

They need 142 from 41 balls and have only three wickets in hand.

Kashif Ali hits a boundary in the final over, bowled by David Wiese, but two dot balls end the game and leave him two runs short of a half-century.

That is five wins in a row now for Yorkshire, and this was one was built on a second-wicket stand of 159 between James Wharton and Dawid Malan (79).

Wharton finished with 111 not out off 56 balls - his maiden T20 century - and Jordan Thompson then took 4-34 as Worcestershire fell short of their target.

Ben Cox hits two fours off Jordan Thompson but is then caught by Ben Mike for 35.

Ed Pollock follows for a golden duck and Worcestershire need 34 off six balls - with Kashif Ali 42 not out.

Hampshire’s winning run in the T20 Blast comes to an end as Kent successfully chase down the Hawks' total of 177-7.

Daniel Bell-Drummond was the star of Kent's reply with 89, ably supported by Joe Denly’s 41.

The overs are running out for Worcestershire but Ben Cox starts the 18th by pulling Ben Mike away for four.

Only singles follow, though, and they need 42 from the final 12 balls.

Like Paul Walter before him, Daniel Sams was on a hat-trick at Cardiff after dismissing Zain-ul-Hassan and Ruaidhri Smith with successive deliveries but couldn't complete the treble.

It makes no difference to the result, though, as Jamie McIlroy has been bowled behind his legs by a Sam Cook yorker in the next over as Essex wrap up their fifth win of the competition.

Walter's 78 off 34 balls led Essex to a big total and although Glamorgan's top three all reached the 40s, none of them could take it further.

Figures of 2-19 capped a fine all-round effort by Walter, and there were also two wickets each for Matt Critchley and Sams.

Josh Davey helps himself to a third wicket - that of David Payne - to confirm what we all knew was coming - a massive Somerset win.

Gloucestershire didn't actually start too badly reaching 99-3 but lost some important wickets in consecutive deliveries.

Miles Hammond (61) batted well but his departure led to his side losing their final seven wickets for just 28 runs to be bowled out for 151 as Somerset powered their way to victory.

West Country bragging rights are most certainly Somerset's.

Shaheen Shah Afridi can’t quite get Notts over the line as he goes for one shot too many, but the North Group leaders inch their way to a three-wicket win against their East Midlands neighbours.

There's an anti-climactic end as well, as Zaman Khan oversteps and the two runs for the no-ball see Notts over the line.

AJ Tye pulls the penultimate ball of the game for six off Craig Miles and follows it with a boundary, but that will be no consolation for Northants as they finish well short of their modest target.

Spinner Freddie Heldreich took 4-27 - he now has 14 wickets in the competition as the Bears were bowled out in the 19th over.

But the Steelbacks never got going in their chase, with Tye's 28 not out off 22 balls and 25 by Saif Zaib the only scores of any note.

Moeen Ali and Dan Mousley each took three wickets as the Bears ended a run of three successive defeats.

There was no hat-trick for Paul Walter, but Glamorgan have lost another wicket with Callum Taylor lbw, trying to sweep Simon Harmer.

They need 61 from the last three overs and that is going to take some doing.
