  1. Goodbye!published at 19:08 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Scotland beat Jersey by 14 runs

Well, it was tighter than anticipated but Scotland get it done in the end. They can point to the final batting partership of Chris Greaves and Mark Watt to get them there - putting on 61 when it mattered most.

The Scots can always rely on their bowling attack though, and they produced again - Brad Currie, Safyaan Sharif and Watt all shining.

They go top of the table - ahead of fellow favourites Ireland on run-rate. Italy will be a test, before that final game against Ireland on the 28th.

For now, a rest weekend before that Italy game on Monday. It's a 10.30am start here at the Grange and George O'Neill will take you through it.

    Until then - goodbye!

  2. Berrington praises bowlers after tight winpublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Scotland beat Jersey by 14 runs

Scotland captain Richie Berrington is the next man to speak to Andrew Leonard, after making his 300th appearance for Scotland: "It's pleasing to reach the milestone, but most pleasing to get a really important win today.

"We lost a few more wickets than we would have liked through the middle overs, but we know we bat deep and we showed it again today. It was a vital final partnership and it gave us something to bowl at.

"It was still a good wicket, so we would have liked more. 180 would have been a good score out there. We gave ourselves a chance though, and we had to be smart with our plans.

"Lengths were important and the guys nailed that, particularly in the power play.

"Brad bowled superbly well, he was on it from ball one and clear with his plans. I'm really pleased for him. Saf has done it for such a long time for us, today he was on the money."

  3. Watt will take four wickets 'every day'published at 18:59 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Scotland beat Jersey by 14 runs

Player of the Match Mark Watt speaks to commentator Andrew Leonard: "This team bats the whole way down to 11 so we always backed ourselves to get a good score.

"I've not given it too much thought, I just go out there with real aggression and try and hit the ball as hard as I can and follow in the footsteps of Leasky and Greavo."

"First half, Jersey put us in real trouble. They fielded well, had good plans, buzzed about the field. Our tent was quiet, we were under pressure.

"I'll take four wickets every day of the wicket. It's something I've been working on, swinging it up top if I can't spin it.

"It's a massive game. In these tournaments, each game comes thick and fast. You need to be on it or else you can be chucked out of the World Cup."

  4. Scotland go top of the tablepublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Scotland beat Jersey by 14 runs

It's hard not to feel for Jersey. They fielded superbly and it undoubtedly kept Scotland's score down, as the hosts batted poorly. Perhaps if Ben Ward had come in a little earlier, things might have different.

In the end, it's Mark Watt who makes the difference. 31 off 22 balls at the end of Scotland's innings, and then 4-21 in the bowling. Player of the Match, for me.

Scotland go top of the table thanks to Net Run Rate, edging ahead of Ireland. That is the final game of this tournament - on Friday 28th - and it's already a sell-out here at The Grange.

I think they've also gotten off that pitch in the nick of time. The dark clouds have gathered and we're in for a downpour.

    Reaction to come.

  5. 6 runs

Scotland win by 14 runs!published at 20 overs

    Jersey 129-9 (target 150)

Gavin Main has the ball for the final over. His second is absolutely leathered away - what a hit that is from Ben Ward. He's going down swinging, that's for sure.

He has another big swing and it's up in the air. Richie Berrington is under it... and he drops it!

Ward has another life - and he makes the most, smashing another for four.

And the final ball is a HUGE SIX! Ben Ward, hat's off.

No-one has ever heard the phrase 'apple's in the pocket, apple's in the air' Andrew...

  7. Postpublished at 19 overs

    Jersey 115-9 (target 150)

Safyaan Sharif is on for the penultimate over. The pace-bowler just needs to remember the basics here - apple's in the pocket, apple's in the air.

He gives four off the over. It is technically possible... but it's going to be an incredible over for Jersey to win here.

  8. Postpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Jersey 111-9 (target 150)

    George O'Neill

There was absolutely no intention to score from that hat-trick ball, much to the disappointment of the home crowd.

They wanted a hat-trick to go alongside what is turning into a fairly comfortable Scotland win.

  9. Boooooo!published at 18 overs

    Jersey 112-9 (target 150)

Watt bowls to Elliot Miles, but he defends away nicely to deny Watt the hat-trick. Pantomime boos rain down from the crowd.

That could have been a walk-off hat-trick! Can you imagine?

  10. wicket

WICKET Perchard lbw b Watt 0published at 17.4 overs

    Jersey 111-9 (target 150)

A golden duck! Watt is on a hat-trick!

Another big shot tried, this time by Chuggy Perchard. 'What were you thinking?!' cries the commentator. Only Chuggy can tell us.

  11. wicket

WICKET Blampied lbw b Watt 3published at 17.3 overs

    Jersey 111-8 (target 150)

Well that was as plumb as they come. Dylan Blampied tries the reverse sweep right in front of his stumps, and it smacks him on his thigh with his knee planted in front of middle.

Mark Watt almost laughed in that appeal. Another wicket for Mark Watt - a third of the day.

  12. 100 runs

up for Jerseypublished at 17 overs

    Jersey 106-7 (target 150)

Dylan Blampied is the next batter in - and his quick single gets Jersey over the 100-mark.

Ben Ward is doing his utmost to drag Jersey towards that target. He clips off his legs again and sends Brad Currie for four.

  13. wicket

WICKET Sumerauer c Leask b Watt 1published at 15.5 overs

    Jersey 97-7 (target 150)

Brad Currie thought he had a superb run out there! Ben Ward pushed it to his leg side and Currie gathered, before lobbing a direct hit at the stumps. The batter was scrambling... but not out says the umpire.

Scotland don't have to wait much longer for a wicket, though. Julius Sumerauer tried to go downtown but only put it skyward. Michael Leask came in from long-on and he was always holding that.

That's why he's known as Scotland's best fielder.

  14. wicket

WICKET Greenwood c Berrington b Sharif 36published at 14.5 overs

    Jersey 93-6 (target 150)

Safyaan Sharif is back on. He's punching it in short but Jersey are surviving and playing it away.

Ward edges one over the keeper but gets away with it. How will Greenwood do?

He hammers one away - but straight to cover and Richie Berrington! How has he held onto that?! Diving to his right, he smothers it!

    Is that the match?

  15. Postpublished at 14 overs

    Jersey 90-5 (target 150)

Chris Greaves' first over wasn't the best, can he improve with his second?

His third ball snakes through Ben Ward and Matthew Cross gathers behind the stumps, face to the sky in anguish - he thought that was it.

Scotland are punished, as Greenwood plunders one through the covers. George Munsey is there but it's through his legs - it's a misfield. How vital might that be?

  16. Greenwood fights onpublished at 13 overs

    Jersey 83-5 (target 150)

Ben Ward hooks away a bouncer from McMullen for another Jersey boundary. The run rate isn't high enough currently, but Scotland will want the wickets.

McMullen is pitching them fairly short and Greenwood smashes another short ball for four over extra cover. He's up to 30 now.

  17. wicket

WICKET Lawrenson c Cross b McMullen 2published at 12.1 overs

    Jersey 72-5 (target 150)

    What an odd, odd dismissal.

The young Lawrenson tries a paddle shot over his own stumps. He clips it straight into the gloves of Matthew Cross. It looked a sore one for the keeper, who stays down after taking it.

It seemed to stun Cross, but he remains behind the stumps. Lawrenson had a tough time of it out there. Ben Ward comes in.

  18. Postpublished at 12 overs

    Jersey 72-4 (target 150)

Chris Greaves comes on from the pavilion end. His first ball is ugly - was it a bouncer attempt? Not an ideal start, but not a boundary thanks to good fielding from Brad Currie.

Not the best few balls from Greaves - he raises a hand of apology to Matthew Cross.

His next bamboozles Lawrenson and Cross whips the bails off - not out, says the square leg umpire. Cross was wheeling away in celebration! Unlucky.

  19. Postpublished at 11 overs

    Jersey 68-4 (target 150)

There will be a break in play as Nick Greenwood receives a little treatment, having taken a bouncer from Brandon McMullen right on the helmet.

He wore that well and there'll be a concussion break.

Ben Ward has been pushed down the order. He'll be the finisher for Jersey.

  20. Postpublished at 10 overs

    Jersey 65-4 (target 150)

"Pressure on the youngster", is the cry as 20-year-old, fresh-faced Josh Lawrenson arrives in the middle.

It's hardly the most friendly of welcomes from Gavin Main who whistles a couple of bouncers past Lawrenson's chin to end the over.
