If you look at most line-ups, you would probably fear about seven or eight of them, teams bat so deep now.

The first boundary of the evening goes to Dawid Malan, using the pace and swatting the ball to the boundary.

Still a decent five from Craig Overton, though.

Here come the players, fireworks going off either side of them as they walk out to the middle.

It's not George Garton but Craig Overton who will bowl the first set of five for Southern Brave, with Alex Hales on strike.

"There are match-winners in both teams, fingers crossed a couple fire for us tonight.

"It's a great competition, everyone loves playing it and the crowd we have here are amazing."

Southern Brave captain James Vince: "It looks a decent wicket, a relatively small ground. First game in the competition so we'll get the lads together and hopefully put in a good display with the ball.

"It's been a short and sharp preparation but good so far. Hopefully we can start well.

"The quality of cricket is so good, you need one or two blokes to come good for you every time to win you the game."

Trent Rockets' hopes of retaining their title suffered a blow yesterday when Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan pulled out on the eve of the tournament through injury.

The 24-year-old was due to play in the Rockets' first three games before leaving for international duty.

The number one-ranked T20 bowler in the world will be replaced by Pakistan's Imad Wasim before New Zealand's Ish Sodhi comes in as announced last week.
