Manchester Originals bowler Mahika Gaur to Sky Sports: "It was amazing, I was really excited beforehand and really pleased Sophie trusted me with the new ball. The team did a great job to restrict them to that score. We are really pleased."

It's rare that somebody steals the headlines from Ecclestone, but Fi Morris has managed it.

The off-spinner took the best figures of The Hundred - both men's and women's competitions - with her 5-7 eclipsing Josh Little's 5-13 from last year (which was also for the Originals).

    Incredible.

In case none of you knew yet, Sophie Ecclestone is good at bowling.

Pavely b Morris 4 (Phoenix 87 all out)

The first five-wicket haul in the women's Hundred! Brilliant from Fi Morris on her Manchester Originals debut.

She finishes with an incredible 5-7 from 16 balls.

Spin does all the work for the Originals: five to Morris, four for Ecclestone and one for Wellington.

Manchester Originals have had to wait until their third game to actually get out on the pitch, but they've certainly made it count.

  7. Phoenix 87-9published at 95 balls

No five-wicket haul for the captain, but what a performance.

    4-11 from 20 balls.

    Superstar.

Sophie Ecclestone is going to try and get it first.

  9. wicket

    Baker b Morris 2 (Phoenix 83-9)

    Morris has four!

Hannah Baker swings and misses, and now we have a contest between who will take the final wicket and claim their five-for?

Both Morris and Ecclestone have four, and both have five balls remaining each!

    Wong c Bryce b Morris 4 (Phoenix 81-8)

Well, not if Fi Morris gets them all first!

Just a little more Sophie Ecclestone brilliance.

She has a remarkable 4-8 from 15 balls. Can she make it a five-for?

  12. Phoenix 79-7published at 85 balls

Issy Wong is trying to give it a whack but the bowlers are offering her very little.

Amanda-Jade Wellington completes a very fine spell of bowling: 1-17 from her 20 balls.

How on earth do you play Sophie Ecclestone?

    Any answers?

    Anyone...?

  14. Phoenix 76-7published at 80 balls

Issy Wong is the new batter for Phoenix, and she'll only play one way.

She heaves her first ball down the ground but just for a single.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 78 balls

    Freeborn lbw b Morris 12 (Phoenix 75-7)

    The spinners are on fire!

Abbey Freeborn tries to get a move on, but misses a sweep off Fi Morris and is trapped plumb in front.

It's been all Originals from ball one here.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 75 balls

    Arlott lbw b Ecclestone 5 (Phoenix 74-6)

    The trend continues.

Bang in front, Emily Arlott doesn't even bother asking for a review and Sophie Ecclestone has four!

The Originals skipper fires one in quicker at the pads and the pace deceives Arlott completely. So, so good.

  17. Phoenix 72-5published at 70 balls

Sophie Ecclestone turns back to pace in Katie George, who offers a free hit after bowling a no-ball but gets away with it.

Phoenix's innings is just crawling along here. They'll be happy with anything over 100 at this rate.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 65 balls

    Flintoff c George b Wellington 2 (Phoenix 62-5)

    Phoenix's troubles continue.

The pressure tells on young Tess Flintoff, who tries to break the shackles by hitting Amanda-Jade Wellington down the ground but can only pick out Katie George at long-on.

    All five wickets to spin!

  19. How's stat?!published at 15:48 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

Abbey Freeborn was an ever-present for Trent Rockets last year, playing seven matches and averaging 20 with bat, including 45 not out in a victory over Manchester Originals in their opening match.

  20. Not outpublished at 62 balls

    Phoenix 61-4

    It's close. Very, very close.

But Freeborn's dive does enough and she survives a little longer.
