Ben Duckett is a very difficult player to bowl at with all these shots.

He uses the pace of Overton and just scoops it over the wicketkeeper.

    It's a very brave shot.

  2. Phoenix 33-0published at 17 balls

    Oh, lovely!

Ben Duckett expertly uses the pace of Craig Overton to ramp it over the keeper's head for four.

He makes it look so effortless.

Slightly overpitched from Garton. We saw how good Duckett was on the back foot but it is an overcorrection from Garton.

Really well put away by Duckett.

  4. Phoenix 27-0published at 15 balls

How has he got four from that?! George Garton bowls a yorker, and somehow Duckett is able to clip it with ease for four.

And Smeed follows it with another boundary, crunched over the off side.

An authoritative start from the Phoenix openers.

Ben Duckett has played beautifully all summer and really looks to get on with it.

If he gets going, he's difficult to stop.

  6. Phoenix 18-0published at 11 balls

Ben Duckett's turn to cash in.

He drills a wider one from George Garton through the covers for four.

  7. Phoenix 14-0published at 10 balls

    Or not!

Smeed has another big swing, and the ball flies off the edge and races away for four.

  8. Phoenix 10-0published at 6 balls

Craig Overton starts his spell nicely, beating the bat of Will Smeed.

He's been bowling beautifully so far in the competition, so this will be a challenge for Phoenix's openers.

Just stand and deliver from Will Smeed. He picked up the length quickly.

  10. Phoenix 9-0published at 3 balls

Will Smeed doesn't take long to get going!

He crashes back-to-back boundaries from his first two balls.

Erin Burns got it to rag during the women's game and the pitch was a little bit stoppy as well.

These seamers are going to be tough to get away. I think there will be a lot of slower balls.

I'm not expecting a lot of runs, it'll be nip and tuck.

  12. Phoenix 1-0published at 1 ball

A nice easy single for Ben Duckett to get the innings underway.

    Here we go then.

Will Smeed and Ben Duckett are ready to open Phoenix's innings, and George Garton has ball in hand.

For Birmingham Phoenix, batting first gives them a chance to showcase their powerful top four.

It's arguably the most dangerous in the whole competition, boasting Ben Duckett, Will Smeed, Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali - but they just haven't got going yet.

It's almost like there's so much power, they don't quite know what to do with it.

    Is tonight their night?

A big boost for Southern Brave is that Chris Jordan is back to full fitness.

He suffered an injury during Brave's win over Welsh Fire earlier in the competition.

James Vince is also back to lead the side, having missed their last game through illness.

England bowler Jofra Archer is on BBC Two tonight, and is asked about his fitness after not being included in England's ODI and T20 squads for the upcoming series against New Zealand, and the World Cup that follows this autumn.

"I'm feeling all right. I'm hopeful," says Archer.

"Everything is going as planned and I just need a little bit of luck and a little bit of hope."

Southern Brave captain James Vince on BBC Two: "We were going to bowl first anyway. It is a dry wicket but there has been a lot of heavy dew here recently so we're hoping it maybe adds a bit of pace to the wicket later on.

"I'm on the mend and feeling much better. We've got Chris Jordan returning from injury tonight as well so we're picking from pretty much a full squad again, which is nice.

"At this stage of the competition, most teams are looking at winning every game to qualify. Every game is a big game and we know we're going to have to be at our best."

Birmingham Phoenix captain Moeen Ali on BBC Two: "It looks pretty dry and it suits our team.

"They're a great side and have been for the last couple of years but we feel alright. We know what we have to do, win all of our games from here to stand a chance of qualifying.

"You're always a little bit nervous before any game but you just try to be as calm as you can when you're out there.

"Chris Woakes has been fantastic throughout the summer. It's great to have him in any team in any format."

Birmingham Phoenix have had a rough competition so far but they have a lot of batting that hasn't fired yet.

If Liam Livingstone gets going, watch out!

It's a must-win game for them to stay in it. I think it will be tough for them and Southern Brave have got too much.
