London Spirit and England captain Heather Knight is one of the best batters in the world.

It can be hard to find weaknesses but generally spin may be a good way to go about her.

The right-hander averages 27.47 against the slower stuff in T20s, compared to 33.26 against pace.

Will we see Hollie Armitage turn to Linsey Smith or Georgia Wareham when the powerplay is done?

  2. Spirit 15-1published at 20 balls

Alice Davidson-Richards comes into the attack and pitches up two deliveries that has Heather Knight playing and missing outside her off stump.

Knight eventually gets off the mark with a drop and run single into the off side.

The rain seems to have followed me around during my Hundred stints so far this year, but Lord's looks an absolute picture as the sun breaks out from behind the clouds.

  3. Not outpublished at 14 balls

Yep, not out. Hawk-Eye showed the ball was disappearing well down leg.

Another wicket? Kate Cross gets one to jag back into Dani Gibson and the ball smacks into her pads as she attempts a cross-batted shot.

The appeal is turned down, but Cross convinces her skipper to send it upstairs.

    Looks optimistic to me.

  5. Spirit 8-1published at 10 balls

One run and one wicket from Grace Ballinger's first spell.

A great start by the Superchargers.

    She is out!

Brilliant wicketkeeping by Bess Heath on the day she earned her first England call up.

  7. Umpire reviewpublished at 7 balls

Ooh, is Niamh Holland out stumped here?

It is brilliant glovework by Bess Heath as Holland sets off for a run not knowing where the ball is, and before she knows it the bails have been whipped off.

  8. Spirit 7-0published at 5 balls

A solid start for the hosts, with Dani Gibson getting the first boundary of the match with a lovely cut shot through point. Perfect placement from the Spirit opener.

Grace Ballinger will bowl the next set.

The players come out to the usual blaze of pyrotechnics. There is even some blue sky and sunshine up ahead. Would you believe it?

Kate Cross will open the bowling for Superchargers, with Niamh Holland and Dani Gibson opening the batting for Spirit.

Good news! The wet weather that gave London a good soaking this morning has moved on and we should get a full game in.

There is a risk of some wet stuff later this evening, but we don't have to worry about that for now.

  11. Charging towards the knockoutspublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

The Northern Superchargers are, erm, on the charge.

They have won four of their five matches so far, including the last three, and can clinch a place in the knockout stages with another victory today.

A win would also secure Southern Brave's place in the knockouts, as well as eliminating London Spirit and Manchester Originals. It would also make it very difficult for Oval Invincibles to qualify.

So in short, today is pivotal.

London Spirit captain Heather Knight: "We're batting again, that's four on the trot that I've lost! I would have bowled but I don't mind it.

"We're going to have to go out and bat well because it does a bit first up here at Lord's. We've got to assess conditions hopefully put a good score on the board.

"Our bowling unit were outstanding in the last match, we were really clinical and real clear. We read the conditions really well and the bowlers executed amazingly.

"We take a lot of confidence from that, our first win, and try to build some momentum into today. We need to keep be positive and having depth to our batting unit means we can really take the game on."

Nothern Superchargers captain Hollie Armitage: "The pitch looks good. We have shorter boundaries today and we are happy to chase.

"We have got a good bunch of girls this year who have stepped up at different times and luckily we have been on the right side of some good results.

"Every ground is different. We love playing at Headingley but hopefully today we can put on a show for these southerners.

"We have got to take every game as it comes. It is another big challenge. Hopefully we can put in a good performance."
