  1. Originals 76-2published at 50 balls

    Buttler 25, Madsen 21

Tymal Mills has got plenty of tricks up his sleeve, plenty of different slower balls, but it is all pace on in this set.

The last one is 90mph but on Jos Buttler's hip and the Originals opener just tickles it away fine for four.

    Strategic timeout coming up.

  2. Originals 69-2published at 47 balls

Quick bouncer from Tymal Mills and Jos Buttler top-edges the attempted hook shot.

The ball goes a long, long way up but the fielder sprinting in from deep backward square couldn't quite get there.

    Let off for Buttler.

  3. Originals 66-2published at 45 balls

Two quick singles end a very good set from Mitchell Santner.

The left-arm spinner was bowling into the pitch, very flat and while it resulted in precious little spin, it was tough to get away for the Originals batters.

Jos Buttler hasn't got going yet.

Phil Salt was the first wicket to fall as he holed out off the bowling of Tymal Mills, who happened to be on player mic at the time...

  5. Originals 63-2published at 40 balls

    Top shot from Wayne Madsen!

A very full ball from Rehan Ahmed and somehow Madsen manages to send the ball skimming through point for four.

A cut through the same region is well stopped but brings two more runs for the Originals.

  6. 6 runs

    Originals 55-2published at 36 balls

Full toss from Rehan Ahmed and Wayne Madsen swings the ball away over square leg. Six!

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Two

Jos Buttler is the perfect player here because he is so versatile.

He is skilful enough to weather some good bowling and a slow pitch, but he also doesn't need too many balls to catch up and accelerate.

  8. Originals 49-2published at 35 balls

Jos Buttler swipes his bat in frustration after crunching a drive but failing to get it past the fielder in the covers.

He flicks the next for a single before Wayne Madsen gets two for a mistimed pull thanks to a misfield at mid-wicket.

  9. Originals 45-2published at 30 balls

No outrageous turn from Rehan Ahmed just yet, he was bowling full enough that the batters were able to smother the spin.

Just three singles from the five balls, though.

I spoke to Rehan Ahmed before the game and he said he was taking 3-26 today.

Rehan Ahmed is into the attack now. The leg-spinner should enjoy bowling on this surface.

Phil Salt hit a big six off George Garton before he departed.

Given he can do this, Brave will be glad to have seen the back of him...

  13. Originals 42-2published at 25 balls

A wide extends the powerplay by one delivery but it's not a costly one for Brave.

Another slower ball and Wayne Madsen mistimes it to the extent the ball barely gets off the cut strip.

Jordan saw Laurie Evans go for the ramp early, so he's smartly taken the pace off. To play that shot, you need pace on the ball because that just does the work for you as a batter.

That's all of Chris Jordan's experience there.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24 balls

    Evans c Conway b Jordan 2 (Originals 41-2)

Slower ball from Chris Jordan and Laurie Evans ramps it behind.

Evans would have wanted pace on the ball to play that shot and when it wasn't there, he couldn't quite get the ball up and over Devon Conway behind the stumps.

Another key breakthrough for Southern Brave.

  16. Originals 40-1published at 22 balls

    Top shot!

A touch too full from Chris Jordan and Jos Buttler drives crisply through extra cover for four.

  17. Postpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 23 August 2023

Chris Jordan is on now with Jos Buttler on strike. The CricViz stats at 18:26 suggest the batter might quite enjoy this...

  18. Originals 36-1published at 20 balls

After an attempted bumper flicks off new batter Laurie Evans' hip and down to fine leg for four leg byes, Tymal Mills ends with a slower ball that is clipped to square leg for two.

It's a big breakthrough. The Brave desperately needed that.

That's why James Vince turned to Tymal Mills, because he brings you wickets.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17 balls

    Salt c Ackermann b Mills 17 (Originals 30-1)

Change of angle from Tymal Mills, round the wicket and it works! Phil Salt pulls it straight to deep mid-wicket.

There's a huge roar of celebration from Mills when Colin Ackermann takes the catch.
