Jos Buttler speaking on BBC Two: "Credit to New Zealand, they outplayed us. It was a good toss to win and they put up a really challenging score, maybe a little bit over par. The partnership of Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips was one we just couldn't break and that was the main part of the game.

"It's good exposure for us to play on those sorts of wickets. It's been a long summer, lots of cricket, I expect those types of pitches and it's been a good challenge with the bat."

New Zealand's win means the four-match series remains alive and tees up a decider at Trent Bridge on Tuesday evening at 18:00 BST.

We will be there as ever with live text commentary and in-play clips.

There will also be highlights on BBC Two from 23:15 BST on Tuesday.

Jos Buttler speaking on Sky Sports: "Credit to New Zealand, they outplayed us. It was a good toss to win, we let them get too many. We couldn't break that Allen-Phillips partnership and they just took the game away.

"Chasing that kind of score we needed a fast start and a good powerplay and we didn't get any partnerships going.

"I'm delighted for Gus. It was great for him to great exposure out there, he looked very comfortable.

Moeen Ali on BBC One: "A difficult day. They batted and bowled well, we were short, let them score too many and couldn't get going with the bat.

"I think it was important we get off to a good start. We were always behind, had no time to knock the ball around. It then takes a special innings from one or two guys, we didn't have that tonight.

"We said how dangerous they were, they can beat anyone in the world. It was awesome from them and great for the series.

"It's always amazing to play at Edgbaston. It would have been nice to carry on, but it was probably too much to chase."

New Zealand captain Tim Southee to BBC One: "We asked for a better performance in all three areas and that was the kind of performance you expect to see when we play.

"Finn showed his class today and Glenn has been outstanding for us for a long time, especially on tricky surfaces. He made it look like a completely different surface to everyone else.

"So we got a decent score and then with the ball we were more clinical and also had the advantage of having 20 overs watching England bowl.

"It is nice to keep the four-match series alive and in another couple of days we will be back into it."

It felt like a good toss to win on a dry Edgbaston pitch and so it proved. But New Zealand still had to get the runs and they did so thanks to a brilliant 83 from 53 from Fin Allen, supported by 69 from 34 by Glenn Phillips.

They were then on the money with the ball and razor sharp in the field to ensure England never really got close to victory.

Every New Zealand bowler took a wicket, with Kyle Jamieson taking 3-23 and Ish Sodhi 3-33.

Clever bowling from Jamieson, taking Moeen Ali wide, making him reach for that ball. Offer Daryl Mitchell a catch at long-on.

It's a leg-cutter, fingers right across it, holding it in the surface - same effect, slow off the surface. Just asking Moeen to hold the strike, the timing of it becomes 50/50.

    Start the car.

It is a near carbon copy of the Luke Wood wicket as Moeen Ali mistimes a Kyle Jamieson slower ball and picks out Daryl Mitchell in the deep.

  17. Eng 112-8published at 15.3 overs

Gus Atkinson strides out to the middle and is very nearly out first ball as his mistimed pull bobbles off his pads and then brushes the stumps - but crucially does not dislodge the bails.

    Cricket statistician on BBC One

In the first two matches England's spinners outperformed New Zealand's, completely the opposite today. Sodhi 3-33, Santner with one over left a parsimonious 1-20, so between them 4-53 from seven overs. England's spinners had 1-98 from eight overs.

But in the first two games England's spinners had 7-102, while New Zealand's had 4-133 at over 10 an over.
