Powerplay over, England are more than halfway to their target and that feels like a good time to hand over to Mike Peter to take you the rest of the way.

Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb are enjoying themselves now.

Timing the ball well, hitting the gaps and running purposefully between the wickets.

  3. Eng 55-0published at 9.1 overs

    Target 107

The boundaries continue to flow and Tammy Beaumont cracks the ball through the covers again off Chamari Athapaththu.

Tammy Beaumont knows she's got to let the runs do the talking. Because what good will come if she kicks off, she has to tell her teammates who she should be replacing. An opportunity will come in T20s, and she'll have the confidence of all those runs behind her.

  5. Eng 51-0published at 9 overs

    Target 107

Tammy Beaumont pings a sweep shot behind square. It sounds superb off the bat, right out of the middle, but straight to the fielder.

    Just a single.

That's four! Cracking cover drive from Emma Lamb. Laced through the in-field to the boundary.

That brings up the 50 partnership.

Tammy Beaumont at her best. She loves playing off the back foot, playing through the covers. It was short, it was wide and it was punished. After being left out of the T20s it does feel like she's got a point to prove.

  7. Eng 44-0published at 8.2 overs

    Target 107

    Crunched!

Too wide from Udeshika Prabodhani and Tammy Beaumont nails the cut shot through point for four.

Four more! A super straight drive, back past the stumps at the non-striker's end and the ball beats the fielders in the race to the boundary.

At this particular stage, you're happy to concede the single on the leg-side and hope they don't find the gap out there.

  9. Eng 36-0published at 8 overs

    Target 107

Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka's main threat with bat and ball, is into the attack.

The England openers are untroubled in this over, though, and some good running helps them to three singles and frustrates the Sri Lanka skipper.

That leads to her firing down a wide and then a short ball that Tammy Beaumont pulls for one.

  10. Eng 31-0published at 7 overs

    Target 107

"Wait onnnn..." calls a frustrated Tammy Beaumont as she fails to put away another short, wide one.

She makes up for it next ball, flicking a low full toss through square leg for four.

Another cut shot finds the field to end the over. Eight from it, Beaumont would have wanted at least eight more!

  11. Eng 27-0published at 6.1 overs

    Target 107

Three boundaries in a row for England and it's another gimme.

Short and wide from off-spinner Oshadi Ranasinghe, Tammy Beaumont waits for it and punches it through extra cover for four.

Wonderful balance from Emma Lamb. She did shimmy down the wicket, but she had a good solid base and was able to carve it over mid-wicket.

  13. Eng 23-0published at 6 overs

    Target 107

Achini Kulasuriya drops short and Emma Lamb, who had been shaping up well but kept hitting the field, pounces on it.

The England opener pulls it up and over mid-wicket for four.

Four more! Too wide this time and Lamb carves it away through point.

  14. Eng 14-0published at 5 overs

    Target 107

Tidy over from Oshadi Ranasinghe, just a couple from it.

The first is a wide down leg. Tammy Beaumont got the other but would have hoped for four.

She thumped a short ball into the covers and it looked to be heading to the fence before an excellent diving stop. Three runs saved.

  15. Postpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 9 September 2023

After four overs of seam, we're going to see spin for the first time in the innings as Oshadi Ranasinghe is into the attack.

This is where England will really be tested. It was a test they failed in the T20s...

  16. Eng 12-0published at 4 overs

    Target 107

There has been plenty of intent from Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb but some tight bowling from the Sri Lanka seamers has kept them quiet for a couple of overs.

As much as England would like to make a statement by knocking these runs off quickly, the win is most important and there's no rush.

Tammy Beaumont starts in a very good place. But when she lifts her bat up she throws her hands outside her body. If you look at where she scores her runs, it's square of the wicket on the off side.

  18. Eng 11-0published at 3 overs

    Target 107

Sri Lanka's fielding was excellent in the T20 series but it's been a very sloppy start from them here.

Another misfield in the ring goes unpunished before a fumble from Anushka Sanjeewani behind the stumps allows a bye.

  19. Eng 9-0published at 2 overs

    Target 107

Good over from Achini Kulasuriya but she isn't backed up by her fielders.

A couple of misfields in the covers allow Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb singles that should not have been on.

In between the two, Lamb cuts through the gully region for a couple.

We know our bowling wasn't really lacking in the T20s, it wasn't at its best, but the areas we needed to make adjustments was in the batting.

I would like England to try and chase this as soon as possible. I know for a fact that Jon Lewis will want us to do that. He'll want to make a statement after the T20 series.
