Against Josh Little, Jacks has scored five boundaries and 24 runs.

  3. Eng 115-2published at 16 overs

Josh Little returns and Ben Duckett uses another of his nine lives from his fourth ball.

The left-hander attempts to work one into the leg side but spoons it up in the air, and he's fortunate there's no close catcher.

A ball later and Will Jacks drives in that familiar fashion of his for four.

  4. England's Manhattan graphpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

As you can see from the graphic, England haven't been able to maintain their fast start. The signs are these two - Jacks and Duckett - are beginning to find their feet though.

Jacks' 50 is his first in all three formats he has played in for England. It came off 44 balls, hitting two sixes and five fours.

  6. 50 runs

Fifty for Jackspublished at 14.4 overs

Will Jacks brings up a dashing maiden half-century by striking Andy McBrine for six down the ground. A promising knock so far from the England opener. Can he convert?

  7. Eng 99-2published at 14 overs

Ben Duckett happy to pick up a single off the remainder of a nagging over from Barry McGarthy.

Here's a clip of the left-hander dispatching Craig Young down the ground from a little while ago.

  8. dropped catch

Jacks dropped on 44published at 13.1 overs

Will Jacks' strongest shot is almost his downfall as he drives a full delivery from Barry McCarthy on the up towards point.

Harry Tector dives to attempt to take the catch but can only get his fingernails on to it and spills it in front of him.

A let-off for the England opener.

  9. Eng 96-2published at 13 overs

Will Jacks has predominantly been strong through the covers today, but capitalised on this from Barry McCarthy to hit England's first six a couple of overs ago.

Spinner Andy McBrine into the attack for the Irish, with Jacks and Duckett happy to milk the singles for the time being.

  10. Eng 91-2published at 12 balls

Ben Duckett's propensity to play at everything, brings him eight runs in two balls at the end of Barry McCarthy's over but not without risk.

McCarthy finds the edge of Duckett's bat with a beauty outside of off stump, which takes a thick edge and races through the vacant third region.

The next ball Duckett goes at it with harder hands, edges again, and is fortunate to beat the diving gloves of Ireland wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker.

  12. Eng 80-2published at 10.4 overs

Ben Duckett is starting to find his feet now as he aligns himself with Craig Young's pace to reignite England's innings from both ends.

The diminutive left-hander latches on to a full delivery from Young and punches it for four through covers.

A couple of balls later and Duckett uses plenty of backlift to cream Young through mid-off for another boundary.

It is the third time in the last five ODIs between these teams that Ireland have got England's captain out for a duck. Previously, Ireland got Eoin Morgan out in 2019 and 2020.

Morgan's dismissal in 2019 was at the hands of Josh Little, who took four wickets that day on debut.

England's first six of the innings. They had an explosive start but they've had to reconsolidate after two quick wickets. He's punched that shot brilliantly.

  15. 6 runs

    Eng 72-2published at 10 overs

Will Jacks breaks the brief stranglehold of Ireland's bowlers with that near-flawless square drive of his, and a few balls later hits England's first six of the day.

Jacks is given something slightly short by Barry McCarthy and gets on the front foot to wallop over the boundary between deep mid-wicket and long-on.

Look away now if you're a member of the Crawley family tuning in...

After a rambunctious summer of Test runscoring for Zak Crawley in the Ashes this was not how he would have envisaged his first innings as an England captain.

Out in the middle, Craig Young, very much a wicket-to-wicket specialist who at 33 knows his game inside out, almost induces a mistake from the Will Jacks drive but the ball squirts behind square for a single.

Ireland have put the brakes on here. No boundaries since the sixth over.

The beauty of being a bowler is that you will always get a second spell, but as a batter, you only get one opportunity.

From five overs, Mark Adair and Josh Little have been 0-50. From his two overs, Craig Young has figures of 2-6.

  20. Eng 58-2published at 11:39 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Here's how Craig Young snared Phil Salt a few moments ago.

Barry McCarthy into the attack for the Irish and, like Young, is a little more tricky to get away. Paul Stirling has got wise to how the Trent Bridge pitch is playing, perhaps, and wants that bit more control from his bowling attack.

We're hearing DRS is down at the moment, so let's not hope that causes too many issues.
