When you get a few wickets, you are getting into the debutants and that can cause problems for England.
Ben Duckett, who is Zak Crawley's vice-captain, is the new batter and he is off the mark with a cover drive for a single.

If you are Will Jacks, you are saying even though you are my captain, don't waste a review because that is plum.
Crawley lbw b Young 0 (Eng 56-2)
Not the England captaincy debut that Zak Crawley would have had in mind...
Good nip off the pitch from the useful Craig Young, who has plugged away outside off stump since his introduction into the attack, as Crawley plays all round and is struck on the back pad.
It's the kind of dismissal that always looks out for a taller player and Crawley decides against reviewing it and is on his way back to the pavilion.

A very good reward for Craig Young, who has started spell well. Phil Salt was looking threatening but he miscued that into the hands of Paul Stirling.

Salt c Stirling b Young 28 (Eng 55-1)
Phil Salt's morning at the driving range is brought to an abrupt halt by Craig Young.
The England opener is caught by the lack of pace a little from Young and ends up miscuing an uppish drive to Ireland skipper Paul Stirling at extra cover.
That brings England skipper Zak Crawley to the crease.

It is short and slightly on the leg side. Phil Salt knows all about Josh Little and he is finding Josh Little to his liking.
Phil Salt scuttles down the pitch then readjusts his body to whip Jos Little off his pads to the square leg boundary to bring up England's 50.
Little manages four dot balls in that over, though, as the Irish battle to contain this England opening pair.
Here's those sumptuous drives by Salt from a little earlier.
Paul Stirling whips Mark Adair out of the attack for Craig Young and it has the desired impact for the Irish as they stymie the runs a touch.
Just a single and three off that over.
Here's two of those delicious drives off the bat of Will Jacks for your viewing pleasure.

Will Jacks and Phil Salt have transitioned really quickly from red ball to white ball cricket and you are seeing that now.
Will Jacks is in the groove with his square drive, deliciously dispatching Josh Little's first ball through the covers again.
Phil Salt plays the first false shot of the day - but still picks up four - with a pull off the toe of his bat.
The stats engines are whirring into life. Records have been set before at Trent Bridge. England made 481-6 against Australia here in 2018.

As a batter, when you turn up to the ground and you ask the batting coach for some throw downs, this is what you get, just pumping the ball into the net. It has been some schoolboy stuff from Adair.
Phil Salt oozing class now, too, with some beautiful straight drives.
Mark Adair is a fraction full to Salt with his third and fifth deliveries. The England batter twice elegantly drives him straight down the ground for four.
They went all the way along the carpet. England caressing their way to a positive start at Trent Bridge.

It's only the third time that England have scored five boundaries in the first two overs of an ODI. The previous two times were against Netherlands last year and against Pakistan in 2021.

Jacks dismissed those like you'd swat wasps away from your head at this time of year.
Gorgeous driving from England opener Will Jacks as he creams three consecutive boundaries off Ireland left-arm quick Josh Little.
Three times Jacks pierces the field in the covers, with expert timing, to find the short boundary.
England are off to a flyer.
Mark Adair strikes Phil Salt on the pads with a delivery which nipped back considerably. Ireland offer a vociferous appeal - turned down - but decide not to review.
The ball-tracking technology on the TV replay shows it would have been umpire's call on height.
A close call for Salt.
Mark Adair, complete with a luminous green sweat band on his left forearm, opens the bowling for Ireland and Phil Salt whips consecutive balls off his legs for four.
England off to a brisk start.
