George Scrimshaw looks relieved more that it's not a no-ball. He even gets a tap on the shoulder from the umpire. Not the start he would have wanted but he has got his first international wicket.

The poor bloke looked close to tears! That is a vital wicket.

    Balbirnie c Duckett b Scimshaw 14 (Ireland 46-1)

    A debut wicket!

Scrimshaw has had a torrid time of it, but responds with an absolute peach, Balbirnie nicks it and Duckett takes the catch in the slips.

He's hardly jumping for joy, but there will be an enormous sense of relief.

    Six!

Stirling dispatches that shot over cover for a brutal maximum.

To make it even worse, Scrimshaw's delivery is then called a no-ball.

  5. Ire 38-0published at 3.4 overs

    Target 335

So much for a lack of no-balls, another from Scrimshaw gifts Ireland another free hit.

Stirling takes advantage of it, hitting it down the leg side for four.

George Scrimshaw needs to bounce back here. It's about how you move on. International cricket is ruthless and you have just to put things to the back of your mind.

  8. Ire 32-0published at 3.2 overs

    Target 335

Stirling tickles one down the leg side and it races away for four.

We haven't seen any no balls yet from Scrimshaw, so there is that, but he will want to be asking more questions of the batters and limiting their scoring options.

George Scrimshaw will just have wanted the ground to swallow him up in that first over. You are trying to set the tone for the whole team. You can see in his face he's shaking his head. Your only feeling is to get off the field and start again! It's a test of character for him with his second over now.

  10. Ire 28-0published at 3 overs

    Target 335

A dot ball ends the over as Potts again remains fairly tidy, going for six.

Scrimshaw is coming back on at the other end and he will be keen to be more consistent this time around.

  11. Ire 28-0published at 2.5 overs

    Target 335

A great off side drive from Balbirnie to send it to the boundary for four.

Ireland taking some inspiration from how England's openers got the innings off to start.

George Scrimshaw needs to sort his run-up out here. It will be his run-up because sometimes as a bowler you can bowl no-balls if you haven't got enough rhythm.

  13. Ire 22-0published at 2 overs

    Target 335

    Clubbed!

Stirling is hardly going to pass up at that free hit and he smashes that straight down the ground for four.

He will come back from it, but not many can say their first international over included four no-balls.

It's been a messy start from Scrimshaw.

  15. Ire 18-0published at 1.5 overs

    Target 335

A fourth front-foot no-ball from Scrimshaw in this over, with 13 runs coming from it so far.

Another free hit for Ireland to end the second over.

George Scrimshaw has a very compact run-up. He looks like he's about to do the triple jump.

George Scrimshaw is a tall and slender pace bowler capable of speeds 90mph.

He and has been touted to be an England international for some time but injuries - including three rounds of surgery on his back - have hampered his progress.

The 25-year-old is the first Derbyshire player to play for England since Dominic Cork at the 2002 Champions Trophy. Although he has signed a deal to join Northants next season.

  18. Ire 11-0published at 1.2 overs

    Target 335

Not the start Scrimshaw will have wanted. We've already seen two no balls from him.

The free hit off the second is clipped away for four by Balbirnie.

He is quick and hopefully, these are just some early nerves.

It's such a shame Paul Stirling is classed as an overseas player in county cricket now, which wasn't the case in the past. I'd like to see Stirling and the other Ireland players to be able to play county cricket because it will strengthen Ireland going forward.

Ireland end the first over with their first boundary, courtesy of skipper Paul Stirling.

A fuller ball from Potts is put away to the boundary for four through point.

Now a chance to look at George Scrimshaw.
