There will be places in India where Shaheen Afridi can find swing and purchase, but if he dones't find breakthroughs in the first 10 overs it will become very difficult for Pakistan.

Great bowlers adapt though and find a way.

  2. Ned 34-1published at 8 overs

    Target 287

Colin Ackermann gets his first boundary with a thumping drive that just evades a diving cover fielder.

But that's the only runs from another solid Hassan Ali over.

  3. Ned 30-1published at 7 overs

    Target 287

Pakistan have fought back well here after the Dutch batters made a positive start.

Shaheen Afridi hasn't been that threatening (I'm not sure I've ever said that before) but he backs up Hassan Ali's wicket-taking over with just two runs from his fourth.

Hassan Ali is such a clever bowler. He can make the difference for Pakistan because he's got the skills, the pace, the execution.

Who says luck doesn't play a part in sport? Hassan will again find his space in the Pakistan side in this tournament and opportunities may come as a result.

  5. Ned 28-1published at 6 overs

    Target 287

    It's almost two in two!

Colin Ackermann edges his first ball but it drops just in front of slip.

A wicket maiden from the ever-entertaining Hassan Ali.

Very skilful bowling and a very well thought out delivery. The previous delivery was full then he went to the bouncer and got it in the right channel.

Hassan Ali pumps the air in celebration. Pakistan have their first.

    Breakthrough!

The short ball does the trick for Hassan Ali. A well-directed bouncer surprises Max O'Dowd and he's rushed into playing it.

The top edge flies down towards Shaheen Afridi, who is as cool as you like in taking the catch.

Smart bowling, making the batter do something different because they were playing the fuller balls quite easily.

If the Netherlands are to be successful today, it will be their second highest successful chase in ODI cricket. They chased 291 to beat Zimbabwe in 2019.

They have also tied with West Indies in World Cup qualifying chasing 374, they finished 374-9.

Against Pakistan last year, they made 298-8 but lost chasing 314.

Stand and deliver. Just pose in that position all day for the photographers, Vikramjit Singh. Beautiful timing.

  11. Ned 28-0published at 5 overs

    Target 287

A rather unconventional slog from Vikram Singh brings him four more, the ball flying through the air over the covers.

Shaheen isn't too happy about that. He responds with a sharp bouncer that has Singh hopping about, but he sways underneath it well in the end.

Singh then adds more misery to Shaheen by beautifully driving the last ball to the boundary - much more technically, this time.

That will give you a lot of confidence as a batter. Beautiful timing, lovely placement and he didn't try to overhit it.

    Lovely looking shot.

Sumptuous bit of timing from Max O'Dowd.

  14. Ned 20-0published at 4 overs

    Target 287

Shot! Max O'Dowd gets his first boundary with a punch off the back foot, a lovely bit of timing.

We saw the conditions really shift to suit the batters in the second innings between England and New Zealand yesterday. It'll be interesting to see whether the trend continues in this game in Hyderabad.

Shaheen was just looking for that magic swinging delivery and it doesn't seem to be there.

You're going to face some really good deliveries but because Pakistan are always looking to take wickets, you are going to be given scoring opportunities and you've got to take them.

Even if Netherlands get to high 40s in the powerplay, you're OK.

  17. Ned 15-0published at 3 overs

    Target 287

    Oh, stunning.

Vikram Singh plays a glorious cover drive that races like a bullet off his bat. But a leaping Babar Azam pulls off a spectacular piece of work to save it one-handed, and it's a cruel result for that shot to end up a dot ball.

There's no stopping the next one, though. Wider from Shaheen and Singh gratefully carves it to the boundary.

Singh will score at such a good rate because he's always looking to get into a position to score.

With the pace of the Pakistan bowlers and the ball skidding on more under lights, you can just get into a good position and let your bat do the work.

  19. Ned 8-0published at 2 overs

Lovely! Chipped over mid-wicket by Vikram Singh as the Netherlands find their first boundary.

Before England went on this great run a few years ago you'd be thinking 287 is too many. But now you look at it and think it's about par.
