Joe Root is the new man. He's not exactly the person a fielding side want to see after a century opening stand, is he?

That's classic, classic Shakib Al Hasan. That ball was slow, Bairstow has a swish at it with no foot movement. It goes flatter and shorter and goes straight through the gate of Bairstow. It was excellently set up.
Bairstow b Shakib 52 (Eng 115-1)
England progress checked.
Jonny Bairstow is gone, beaten by one that Shakib Al Hasan gets to skid on. Bairstow was staying leg side of the ball, looking to play through the off side. Shakib, more tricks than Paul Daniels (ask your parents) gets it to skid between bat and pad, on to the leg stump.

England's worry coming into this game was erring on the side of recklessness today but they haven't done that. They've put pressure on but without being extreme.
Bairstow 51, Malan 60
Malan is showing the full range here. Left-arm pace from Shoriful. First it's a heave for four, then a deft open face for another boundary. How many did South Africa make the other day? England could push that.
"It's fantastic that we have a group of guys who are super hungry and so competitive but also working for each other."
You would naturally expect a fast-bowling coach, in this case Allan Donald, to speak gushingly about his charges. It goes with the territory.
But the surprising thing is that ex-South Africa international Donald is describing Bangladesh's current crop of fast bowlers.
A cricket nation steeped in the pre-eminence of spin bowling, is finally changing tack.
Eng 102-0
Jonny Bairstow marks his 100th ODI with yet another half-century. 54 balls, eight fours, most of them to the off-side fence. A strong case that he is England's best white-ball opener of all time.

There are still people coming into the stadium with the crowd growing. There are lots of school kids in.
I’ve just sat behind a group from a local school in Kangra - the town down the valley near the airport.
They’re making quite the racket.
And before anyone says, I know the Aussie version of Married At First Sight isn't on right now, but it's still the best. Also, relationship expert John Aiken played 46 first-class matches in New Zealand. When cricket meets trashy telly. The perfect combination.

Sam: Have a poorly baby so my wife has made me turn the cricket off for CBeebies - following the text commentary instead!
YJB will soon be following Malan here. Two fours, the second a clip off a rank Mehidy full toss. Meanwhile, chat at live text towers turns to the best thing on telly right now. Jonty and Maisie saying Traitors. They are both wrong. It's Married At First Sight Australia.

Fantastic. They had a look for the first few overs and perhaps Bangladesh were guilty in the first few overs of chasing wickets. Dawid Malan is the stark contrast of Jonny Bairstow, albeit he's probably had a few more gifts than Bairstow has had.
Eng 89-0
He just keeps scoring runs, doesn't he? Another ODI half-century for Dawid Malan. 39 balls, seven fours and two sixes. Still third on the list of highest ODI averages of all time.

My son works for a lawn care company. I'm going to suggest he gets over to Dharamsala pronto to set up a new franchise...

Come on, Mike. It's too early for that chat. I thought there was a bit of an overreaction to England's defeat by New Zealand, who were excellent on the opening day. Seeing the rest of the field hasn't exactly driven up levels of fear, either.

Mike Bell: Six an over is way off the pace needed for England to make a real impact in this World Cup.
Malan 48, Bairstow 36
You'll certainly do a better job of cracking gags than I will. Too short from Mehidy Hasan, Bairstow hits his fourth four to the square off-side fence. You could throw a decent-sized duvet over the area where all of the quartet have ended up.
