England can't afford a banana skin. The one thing they have to do is commit. They have to commit to everything to do and if they do that, they will have a far more positive result and more fun in doing so.

  3. 'We're up for the challenge'published at 05:53 British Summer Time 10 October 2023

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan: "We'll field first. It's a little bit cooler than the other day but hopefully we can get something out of this pitch and then go from there.

"The way we fielded against Afghanistan, we didn't get the start we wanted but the way we believed was the pleasing side, we want to do the same thing.

"Obviously, it's a different game, different mindset but we want to be as calm as possible.

"Mehidy Hasan has come a long way. I've been watching him since 2016 when he made his debut against England. His batting improved a lot and he's one of the leaders in our side.

"They're the world champions, we'll have to be at our best to get a result but we're up for the challenge."

  4. 'We wanted to field first too'published at 05:52 British Summer Time 10 October 2023

England captain Jos Buttler: "We'd have looked to field first too. It was a bad day at the office against New Zealand, we know we were short of our best. We do bounce back well, and that's due to the quality in our squad."

Just as they did when they beat Afghanistan on this ground, the Tigers get the coin flick right and opt to chase.

One change for England. Topley in, Moeen out.

Now they meet in Dharamsala, one of the most beautiful grounds in the world, practically in the Dalai Lama's back garden.

But that all seems to overshadowed by the state of the outfield. It's more of a sandpit than a cricket ground.

Plenty more on that to come, because the coin has already been flicked.

Yep, England's defence of the World Cup got off to the worst possible start with an absolute shellacking at the hands of New Zealand.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, started quite nicely.

Right. Let's try that again, shall we?
