  1. Post update

Time for us to leave it there.

Here's the report as India, and Rohit Sharma, were very impressive as they race to an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan.

There will also be a World Cup Daily podcast available later.

Thursday sees South Africa, who made a World Cup record score in their opening match, face Australia. Pat Cummins' side are looking for their first win of the tournament.

Join us from 09:15 BST for text updates, ball-by-ball radio commentary and in-play video clips. It should be a cracker.

  2. Therapy, Beckham & a crying child - Donald's 1999 torment

    Allan Donald

Thursday sees South Africa play Australia in a rematch of the 1999 World Cup semi-final at Edgbaston.

It is one of cricket's greatest games, certainly at a World Cup. But for South Africa it is a source of heartache and frustration.

Proteas legend Allan Donald has revealed his years of hurt and torment after his role in the "epic movie".

Read what he has to say here.

  3. Post update

Rohit Sharma won player of the match for his blistering 131 off 84 balls but a special mention for Jasprit Bumrah too.

He took the initial breakthrough, before coming back to take three at the death and finish with 4-39.

  4. 'The gulf in class is probably too big to narrow'

    Dirk Nannes

Former Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special

There are some things Afghanistan can change tactically. The way they changed their bowlers was wrong. Rashid Khan bowled his first ball to Rohit Sharma when he was on 88. That's far too late. It is silly to keep your premier bowler away for that long.

But there are some things they just cannot change. The gulf in class between the lower ranked sides and the top ones is probably too big to narrow.

  5. 'Very important to get momentum'

India captain Rohit Sharma: "It was a good win for us. It is very important to get momentum at the start and have the winning streak continue. There will be times you are put under pressure but it is about absorbing that and making the right decisions as a team. There will be times as a bowling side when we're put under pressure but I'm sure the games we played in the build-up to the World Cup will help. We need to leave that aside and move on from here.

"We want players to have different skillsets and bring different attributes to the team. It puts you in good positions as a team. With the bat we've got people can play fearless and their are guys who can absorb pressure. When you have all-round players in your squad most of the things are taken care of and just making sure you take the right decision in the game."

On Pakistan, who they play on Saturday: "It is quite crucial that we don't worry too much about the external factors. We need to show up on the ground really well. Ever game we will treat like that and focus on what we need to do on that particular day."

  6. 'We will try and learn from our mistakes'

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi: "We had a target of 300+ in these conditions, especially as India's batting line-up is strong. But back-to-back wickets cost us.

"Our thinking behind the decision to bat first was that the surface was good so we wanted to score runs and put pressure on the opposition.

"We have seven more games. We will try and learn from our mistakes and come back with a positive attitude."

  7. Post update

    Carlos Brathwaite

Ex-West Indies all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

It was clinical from India. I thought Afghanistan did well to get to that score, though they left a few runs out there. There are plenty of positives to take.

But when you take on a juggernaut like India in home conditions, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in that kind of form, many other teams would suffer the same fate.

But given their limitations they put up a good fight with bat in hand.

  8. Post update

Here's the moment that Virat Kohli wrapped up a comfortable eight-wicket win for India.

  9. 'Always special to score a World Cup century'

Player of the match Rohit Sharma: "It was a good pitch to bat on. I was just backing myself to play my natural game. I knew once I got my eye in the pitch would only get easier and easier to bat on. I've been thinking about it a long time. I was glad I could go a little big and it was a special feeling and it is always special to score a hundred in a World Cup.

"I don't want to think about records too much. There is a long way to go and I don't want to lose my focus. I want to focus on the what the team requires of me and when you get days you like this you want to make it count and make it count big.

"Some of it is premeditated. You can't just keep going and playing those kind of shots but at times I let my instinct take over. Sometimes it works really well. It is my duty as an opener to make the start that we want, particularly in a chase, and put the team in a comfortable position. I love doing that. I want to back myself to keep doing that. It is important to not lose that mindset and keep putting pressure on the opposition."

  10. Post update

India join New Zealand and Pakistan with a perfect record from their opening two games.

They split those two sides in second.

South Africa could join those three on two wins from two against Australia on Thursday.

  11. Post update

    Dirk Nannes

Former Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special

An incredible performance with bat and ball by India. Afghanistan were left 150-200 runs short with the bat and were thoroughly outclassed with the ball.

India are one of the best teams in the world and when they are at home, good luck.

    They have dominated this fixture.

  12. BreakingIndia win by eight wickets

    India go two from two.

They thrash Afghanistan with 15 overs to spare.

As pretty comprehensive as it gets.

  13. 50 for Virat Kohli

    Ind 269-2

Back-to-back half-centuries to start the World Cup for Virat Kohli.

    This one off 55 balls.

    Four to win.

  14. Post update

    Dirk Nannes

Former Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special

That's not pretty fielding. It should have been cut off. Hashmatullah Shahidi has just dived over the ball.

  15. Ind 265-2

Afghanistan have been ropey in the field.

Virat Kohli drives and Hashmatullah Shahidi dives over the ball and it runs away for four.

    Eight to win.

  16. Post update

Probably not as many as you think, Prayag.

I reckon his ODI runs is around 265km assuming he'd never scored a boundary, which he obviously has!

  18. Ind 261-2

    Need 12 from 96 balls

    Shreyas Iyer wants this done.

He picks up another boundary with a crunching pull shot to the square-leg boundary.

India are closing in on two from two.

  19. Ind 255-2

    Need 18 from 102 balls

Mujeeb Ur Rahman concedes 11 from the over. Not too bad considering the first-ball six.

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer have shared 50 in 46 balls now.

  20. Ind 250-2

Ah. As I say that Shreyas Iyer plants Mujeeb Ur Rahman back over his head for six.

    Superb shot.
