There has been plenty of exciting cricket as well, Dean - not least a record World Cup total from South Africa and a record World Cup chase from Pakistan.
But, yes, there has been a lack of close finishes so far and more net run-rate protecting than is ideal.
Still plenty of time for the close games to come, though!

We are already seeing some dull cricket in this World Cup because teams are anxious about net run rate. They are just plodding along to bat out overs, like Australia are here. That's the trouble with this format, unfortunately.
Dean Reid, in Dronfield
Target 312
Mitchell Starc attempts to pull Lungi Ngidi square and very nearly falls onto his stumps before regaining his balance just in the nick of time.
Initially, it looked as though he'd hit it but replays show he was clunked on the helmet.
We'll have a delay while the concussion test is conducted.
Let's not start this again, Jamie...

I enjoy the Aussies not getting the rub of the green as much as any England cricket fan but people saying the Aussies shouldn't complain are missing the fact that there was never any doubt that Bairstow was actually out....
Jamie, London
Target 312
Mitchell Starc chops the first ball down to deep third for four to begin Australia's most productive over for a while.
Nine from it in total to keep the required rate from climbing any higher. At least for now.
OK, here you go. This is the controversial Marcus Stoinis wicket.
Thumbs up for out, thumbs down for not out...
Target 312
Finally some aggression from Marnus Labuschagne as he tries to thump the last ball of Lungi Ngidi's over through the covers.
However, it's superbly stopped and there is no run. I didn't hear Marnus shout that on this occasion, though...

Australia are out of this. The rate is up to 8.5 over now. It's been a bit of tepid performance by them. They've not been in your faces like Australia normally are.

Stuart Mitchell: After what happened with Bairstow, I have no sympathy for the Aussies at all. On this performance they won't beat NZ, England or Pakistan. Early exit incoming.

I'm sure Australia's players and Andrew MacDonald will be up to see the match referee after this match about that decision.
Target 312
Tidy stuff from Tabraiz Shamsi but he can't tempt either Marnus Labuschagne or Mitchell Starc into anything resembling an attacking shot.
Three from the over. It's all rather sedate stuff after the drama of the early part of the innings.
It looks like Lungi Ngidi is coming back to bowl the next over.

Kasprowicz, Edgbaston 2005, anyone? He must have been correctly given out.
Steve, Birmingham
Target 312
No urgency whatsoever from Australia. They're happy to push three singles from Keshav Maharaj's over as the required rate gets up to 8.22.
It's time at the crease for Marnus Labuschagne, I suppose.

Ironic how the Aussies complain against the decision after Bairstow's dismissal in the summer....

This match could threaten Australia's heaviest defeat in a World Cup match, which was the 118-run defeat they suffered against India in 1983.
Target 312
Tabraiz Shamsi gets through a good first over, just three singles from it.
The left-arm wrist-spinner got some decent turn in that over with Marnus Labuschagne grateful for a thin nick having played back and been hit on the pad.

Andy Vickers: Last wicket definitely needed HotSpot to confirm which glove it hit. Should not overturn the umpire unless its clear which hand it brushed.
Sash_or_Chicane: The absolute cheek for Australia to ask Bavuma to withdraw the appeal after what happened to Bairstow. Reap what you sow lads.
Target 312
Steady stuff from Keshav Maharaj as he gets through another over. Just four from it.
Are Australia already in protecting the net run-rate mode?
