    NZ 17-1

Nearly a brilliant catch from Mehidy Hasan Miraz!

Devon Conway drives at a ball from Mustafizur Rahman and it goes quickly but in the air through point.

Hasan Miraz flings himself to his left at backward point and gets a hand to it at full stretch, he just can't quite cling on.

Let off for Conway. How costly will that prove to be for Bangladesh?

  2. NZ 15-1published at 6 overs

    Target 246

Not the most comfortable start for Kane Williamson on his return from injury.

Not the most comfortable start for New Zealand in general.

The skipper is really being challenged by Shoriful Islam as the left-arm seamer gets through a probing maiden over.

If you're a player and you're telling Shakib to take a review you've got to be absolutely certain!

  4. NZ 15-1published at 5.1 overs

    Target 246

Big appeal for lbw as Shoriful Islam nips one back to hit Kane Williamson on the pad.

It was a very good delivery but it looks a touch high. Shakib Al Hasan clearly agrees as he decides against a review.

Ball-tracking shows that was the right call. Just going over the top.

Against England, New Zealand were 10-1 after losing Will Young and they didn't lose another wicket.

  6. NZ 15-1published at 5 overs

    Target 246

Perhaps just a little bit of frustration shown by Devon Conway as he skips down to Mustafizur Rahman and has a big swish outside off stump.

He misses and then settles himself down for the remainder of the over.

This has been a good start from the Bangladesh bowlers, though. New Zealand don't need to rush but they aren't enjoying being slowed down to such an extent.

We'll have more on Sir Alastair Cook's retirement for you soon. What a player he was for England and Essex!

In Chennai, it's a good over from Shoriful Islam, just two from it as Devon Conway punches powerfully through the off side.

England and Essex legend Alastair Cook has announced his retirement from professional cricket, ending a record-breaking 20-year career.

Left-hander Cook, 38, retired from Test cricket in 2018 but has played five more seasons with Essex since then. Cook's contract at Chelmsford has expired and England's all-time leading run-scorer is not seeking an extension.

"It is not easy to say goodbye. Cricket has been so much more than my job," said Cook in a statement.

"It has allowed me to experience places I never dreamed I would go, be a part of teams that have achieved things I would never have thought possible and, most importantly, created deep friendships that will last a lifetime.

"From the eight-year-old boy who first played for Wickham Bishops Under-11s to now, I end with a strange feeling of sadness mixed with pride. Above all, I am incredibly happy."

  11. NZ 12-1published at 3 overs

Good finish to the over from Mustafizur Rahman as Kane Williamson, batting for the first time in the World Cup has a look early.

Important wicket for Bangladesh but before we go any further, we've got some big news to big you about an England legend...

Perfect response from Mustafizur Rahman. Brought it in just a little bit, straight into the hands of the wicketkeeper.

    Ravindra c Mushfiqur b Mustafizur 9 (NZ 12-1)

    Edged and gone!

Rachin Ravindra slashed the previous ball down to deep third for another boundary but he prods and this one and nicks behind.

It's just a slightly change of line and there is a bit of bounce for Mustafizur Rahman from back of a length.

Probing stuff and Ravindra just fiddled it through to Mushfiqur Rahim.

Width from Mustafizur Rahman and Rachi Ravindra crunches it through point for four.

That's what we've seen from the New Zealand left-hander so far in this tournament. Excellent touch and timing.

  15. NZ 4-0published at 2 overs

    Target 246

It's left-arm seam from both ends as Shoriful Islam opens from the other end.

It's left-arm all the way so far. Two left-arm bowlers up against two left-handed batters.

New Zealand are in no rush and settle for three from the over, a wide and two singles.

On paper, New Zealand should find this chase very easy. But we've got 50 overs to play, Shakib is a very intelligent captain, he's opened with a left-hander to bowl to two left-handers. If Bangladesh get a couple of early wickets, this could be a banana-skin target to chase.

But New Zealand aren't a team who'll be intimidated by a seven-an-over chase. They've scored 300+ in their last two games.

  17. NZ 1-0published at 1 over

    Target 246

New Zealand get away first ball as Devon Conway guides it down to deep third for a single.

Rachin Ravindra then gives himself a few balls to get in, letting four in a row from Mustafizur Rahman go through to the keeper before driving the last to point.

With Kane Williamson back, Rachin Ravindra has been bumped up to open but it's Devon Conway who will face the first ball.

Mustafizur Rahman will open the bowling.

I don't have New Zealand down as a team who choke or collapse. They always put in a half-decent performance with the bat. Bangladesh will have to do something special to beat them.

Right then, the Bangladesh fielders head out to the middle with the New Zealand openers following.

New Zealand are big favourites at this point but a couple of early wickets could make things very interesting.
