I honestly wonder whether Harry Brook's medium pace could be a useful asset in ODIs. Someone bowling slowly at an awkward length to keep the runs tight and release some pressure from the other bowlers.

The fall of that wicket prompts the umpires to allow drinks to be brought on to the field.

Livingstone and Root have been quick through their overs, not letting the batters settle and Hashmat has been very frenetic.

Root fired it in with a low arm so rather that turning when it pitches, it skids on.

That's gone straight through him. Fired in from round the wicket. Root takes an important wicket, the Afghanistan skipper is unable to redeem himself for running out Gurbaz.

Afghanistan's woes continue after that magnificent start.

    Bowled 'im!

Batter error rather than a superb piece of bowling in all honesty, as Hashmatullah Shahidi attempts to guide the England spinner fine and ends up watching it all the way on to the bail of his off stump.

At the moment, Livingstone and Root are just rattling through the overs.

So, the Afghanistan batters are coming together in the middle every now and again just to try and slow England down.

  7. Afg 174-5published at 32 overs

Liam Livingstone continues with his bag of liquorice all sorts.

Ikram Alikhil's sweeps the final ball of the part-time England spinner's over for a couple.

    Thanks, Jonty.

England have fought back well in Delhi. It doesn't look a ragging Bunsen, but that control from the spinners has been key.

  9. Afg 169-4published at 31 overs

Joe Root with comfortably his tidiest over yet, with only three singles come from it.

That is the end of my spell, I shall hand over to Timothy Abraham to take you through the rest of this innings.

Speaking of Livingstone, here is how he dismissed Azmatullah on 19.

  11. Afg 167-4published at 30 overs

It is the end of Liam Livingstone's sixth over and still, Afghanistan have not scored a boundary off him, with the all-rounder sitting on figures of 1-14 so far.

England stick with Joe Root at the other end.

  12. Afg 166-4published at 29 overs

The six was the only real shot of note from Joe Root's over, going for seven in total.

Afghanistan's batters will have been unnerved by this spell, but their spin options will be excited to get out there in the second innings.

Smoked over deep mid-wicket. It was a drag-down from Joe Root. He looks puzzled, he can't understand where that came from.

  14. 6 runs

    Afg 165-4published at 28.3 overs

A shorter ball from Root is brilliantly dispatched, with Ikram Alikhil clubbing that away for a big six.

The spinners have not given too much away, but Root will been disappointed with himself there.

Good afternoon. Well, it is now for England. It wasn't 40 minutes ago.

Spin is restricting the score for Afghanistan brilliantly, from an England perspective.

Two come from Liam Livingstone's latest over, but he, Adil Rashid and the one over from Joe Root have all been tidy so far.

Root just going a bit shorter, wanted to be hit out to deep cover but Ikram got it behind square for four.

The spinners have got hold of this innings for England, though.

  19. Afg 157-4published at 27 overs

Five come from Joe Root's first over of the World Cup.

He finds the bottom edge of Ikram Alikhil's bat off the new batter's first ball of the innings, but Afghanistan's wicketkeeper recovers with a leg-side four of the over's final delivery.

For the first time in this World Cup, we're going to see Joe Root bowl. Chris Woakes is taken out of the attack after one over in that spell.
