    Told you!

Short from Shoriful Islam and Rohit Sharma effortlessly pulls it over deep backward square.

That has gone a long way back into the crowd.

  5. Ind 18-0published at 2.2 overs

    Target 257

The margin of error is slim for Bangladesh bowlers but this is just a gimme from Shoriful Islam.

A tad too short and far too wide, allowing Rohit Sharma to crash the ball through the covers on the angle for four.

  6. Ind 14-0published at 2 overs

    Target 257

Just a pair of singles from the remainder of the Mustafizur Rahman's over but India's openers already look determined to break the back of this chase quickly.

It's always been the way with Indian cricket that they love their batsmen - right through from Sunil Gavaskar.

    Four more!

It's exquisite timing from Shubman Gill as the delivery from Mustafizur Rahman shapes onto his pads and he strokes it through mid-on.

Rohit Sharma is on for one or two records tonight. He holds the record for most World Cup centuries but if he scored a century here he would become the first person to score three centuries against the same side in World Cup cricket.

No sign of an upset based on the first over of the chase.

Rohit Sharma thumps Shoriful Islam through point second ball and follows it up with a shot just over the backward point fielder later in the over.

A show of intent from the India skipper early on.

    Thanks, Tim.

India would expect to make light work of this chase. But then again, England and South Africa probably thought similarly in recent days.

Have we got another shock incoming?

There might not be much turn in Pune according to Ravindra Jadeja but Bangladesh may well look beyond their spinners to wrestle this game in their favour.

In the last 12 months, Bangladesh's fast bowlers have collectively claimed 60% of the team's one-day international wickets despite bowling 48% of the overs.

The majority of those ODIs have been played in Bangladesh, which challenges the assumption of Bangladesh playing their matches on spin-friendly tracks at home.

  14. 'It's a flat wicket'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 19 October 2023

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja: "I think the wicket looks very good, there was no turn.

"If we play normal cricket then we could go through.

"The celebration (after his catch) was for the fielding coach. Every game, he gives the award for the best catch so I was just telling him that I am also here so look at me when we finish the game.

"The wicket was playing wonderful, I would say it's a flat wicket and the ball is coming nicely onto the bat.

"Hopefully our batters can go out and chase it down."

England were bowled out for 215 after being set 284 by Afghanistan while South Africa were skittled for 207 as they came a cropper chasing the Netherlands' total of 245

India, at home, might be a different matter, though.

Convention says this should be a breeze for India.

However, as South Africa and England discovered the past few days against Afghanistan and the Netherlands nothing is a foregone conclusion.

It doesn't feel like it's enough for Bangladesh. It's a small ground and the outfield is pretty quick.

But who knows, if they get a good start and a couple of early wickets then you never know.

India need 257 to win then.

Ravindra Jadeja is doing a flash interview between innings so we'll see what he has to say shortly.

No one expected that! Rohit Sharma had his hands on his knees saying, 'how did he do that to you?'

Shoriful Islam has come out at number 10 and hit one of the best bowlers in the world for six over cover.

  20. 6 runs

    Ban 256-8published at 50 overs

Shoriful Islam plays one of the shots of the day off the final ball of the innings, as he smears Jasprit Bumrah over the boundary at extra cover for a quite brilliant six.

India captain Rohit Sharma with a wry smile.
