How on earth did that miss?
Shami is such a good bowler, he's quicker than you think, but he just keeps things so simple.

Oof, what a ball from Mohammed Siraj as he beats Ben Stokes all ends up and narrowly misses his outside edge.
The India players in the slips have their heads in their hands
Despite missing out on a hat-trick Jasprit Bumrah has a huge smile on his face as he bowls a maiden over.
England just need to calm things down here.

Bumrah can't join the club yet, you've got to be a good bowler to be there.
No hat-trick this time as Jonny Bairstow forces the ball into the off side off his thigh pad.
Relief for England.

If Bumrah gets a hat-trick, the whole place will go up.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing again and again and hoping for a different outcome… that’s what it’s like watching England play cricket at the moment.

Oh, Will at Abington services (13:14). How God laughs at our plans! Good luck with England lasting 50 overs old chap. You will have to enjoy a nice play on Radio 4 Extra instead.

England only need four an over!

Barring that one over from Rohit against David Willey, anyone who has charged down the ground has just put it up in the air.
There was definitely something on snicko as the ball went past Joe Root's bat, but it was very faint.
Surely if Root knew he had got an edge he would have reviewed straight away?
Meanwhile Ben Stokes is looking a bit nervy, missing with a wild charge down the track before wafting at one outside off stump.
One-day cricket, eh?

That's a classic Bumrah dismissal really. That's got the crowd up.

There was one earlier with Rohit Sharma, but he was a long way out of his crease. Root is on the crease line, it doesn't have time to get that far across.
Jasprit Bumrah will have to wait for the hat-trick ball as it was the end of the over.
Here comes Ben Stokes. The stadium is absolutely bouncing.
How quickly this game has turned.

I'm not sure there was enough there to suggest that it was an inside edge. Root let it go past the bat once and it thudded into the pad.
Root lbw b Bumrah 0 (Eng 30-1)
All the reds, going on to thump into leg stump.
Joe Root is gone first ball, Jasprit Bumrah is on a hat-trick.
Root is absolutely furious as he makes his way off the field. I think he felt he got a very faint nick on that.
Jonathan Agnew

First ball, he got right across that and it follows his stumps. Root got a long way across. He got so far across, it probably looks worse because of that. Bumrah was really confident.
Joe Root is trapped lbw first ball!
Root reviews after a quick chat with Jonny Bairstow, but this looks pretty out.

Jasprit Bumrah has done that so many times, it comes slightly off the seam and it cannons off the inside of the bat and into the stumps.

Malan has chopped into his own stumps, this stadium comes alive. 50,000 pairs of arms and flags wave in the air and Jasprit Bumrah does what he so often does in these early overs and gets the breakthrough.
