    Malan b Bumrah 16 (Eng 30-1)

    It is not silent now!

There is a touch of fortune about it but India won't care. Dawid Malan looks to cut the ball away but is cramped for room and can only chop the ball back on to his stumps.

    India needed that.

  2. Eng 30-0published at 4.3 overs

That's a fine ball from Jasprit Bumrah, as he bowls around the wicket to Dawid Malan and beats his outside edge.

The next ball is then expertly driven square through point to near silence.

There is some dew about, we can expect to see some movement in the ball.

That has just whacked Siraj in the fat bit under your thumb, it's probably got a more technical name than that. It hurts when you get hit there.

  5. Eng 26-0published at 4 overs

There was some brief concern for Mohammed Siraj and India as he immediately calls for the physio after bowling the third ball of his second over. It looks like an issue with his left ankle that needs some of the tape that is wrapped around it loosened.

Siraj is quickly able to continue, but then takes a blow to his left hand as he attempts to field off his own bowling.

An eventual and painful over for the India seamer.

That's a lovely shot, silence other than the DJ who has to say something.

  7. Eng 24-0published at 3.1 overs

Shot! Jonny Bairstow leans into a wonderful cover drive that sends the ball fizzing to the rope.

    That was glorious.

India have already bowled as many wides as England did in the whole of their innings.

  10. Eng 20-0published at 3 overs

Now it is Jasprit Bumrah's turn to bowl a wide, though it could have been worse as KL Rahul made a great diving stop to prevent four byes.

Dawid Malan gets a touch of fortune as a thick inside edge very nearly clatters into his own stumps, but inside squirms away into the leg side and England run two.

The dressing room will have breathed a sigh of relief. Especially after being bowled out against Sri Lanka, you sit in your big comfy chairs. It's a lovely feeling for bowlers sinking into the dressing room and you just have to remain calm.

I think today is Joe Root's day, being such a good player of spin will suit him perfectly. Or we could be bowled out for 50.

That Mohammed Siraj over also included two wides and a leg bye. That should settle England nerves a bit.

It is very, very quiet in the stadium right now.

That certainly was a good shot from Malan, not that short and it was just lofted up.

This is a massive six and you could hear a pin drop in the stadium.

    Eng 16-0published at 1.5 overs

Hello! Dawid Malan has heaved the ball over long-on for a huge six.

The next ball is fuller and Malan drives down the ground for four.

This is turning into a decent start by England.

  18. How's stat?!published at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

Jonny Bairstow has averaged 25.4 in five innings for England in this World Cup while fellow opener Dawid Malan has averaged 44 in the same number.

    Target 230

Two slips in place for Jasprit Bumrah as India seek early wickets.

Jonny Bairstow gets off the mark with the final ball of the over as he clatters a wide ball through point. Good shot.

Mohammed Siraj will open the bowling at the other end.
