It has been very measured and mature from Rahmat Shah. It is good to back up what he did in the last game too.

Both of these players look very assured at the moment.

It has been a very impressive and calm half-century. It has been no nonsense.

50 for Rahmat Shahpublished at 24.1 overs

    And there it is.

Rahmat Shah pushes the ball into a gap for a single to bring up a hard-earned half-century from 61 balls, his 25th in ODIs.

Not the most explosive knock, but perfectly paced given the circumstances.

A magnificent shot. Beautiful timing and the outfield does the rest. Both of these players are doing it in style. What Afghanistan don't want to do is lose back-to-back wickets because it really heaps pressure on you.

  5. Afg 112-2published at 24 overs

I don't think there are many better-looking shots in cricket than the cover drive, and this is a beautiful example as Rahmat Shah caresses the ball to the rope.

Brilliant shot. Rahmat is now one away from a half-century.

This did not go where Hashmatullah Shahidi intended, but I'm sure he won't mind.

There has to be some of Jonathan Trott's calm influence to this Afghanistan side given the way he approached his batting. They are playing the situation really well.

  8. Afg 105-2published at 23 overs

I covered Afghanistan's win over Pakistan earlier in the tournament and I was impressed with the maturity of their batting when chasing. It is the same here. They haven't panicked after the dismissal of Ibrahim Zadran and are slowly starting to rebuild.

This feels like a sensible and mature approach to their innings by Afghanistan. They've weathered the tricky spells and built beautifully. It's been a real calm approach.

    Target 242

Now Rahmat Shah shows some aggression as he plays a lofted drive over mid-off that is clawed back from the rope and Afghanistan run two.

Six runs off the over in total brings up the Afghanistan hundred.

We have just seen a shot of wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil padded up on the Afghanistan dugout. He injured his finger early in the Sri Lanka innings and had to come off the field, but it looks like he is fine to bat.

That is unbelievable from Hashmatullah Shahidi. That ball carried all the way off a thick outside edge. The ball flew and shows you that it is coming on the bat nicely off the pitch.

    Flash, flash hard.

Hashmatullah Shahidi looks to aggressively pull into the leg-side but it flies off a top edge, over the wicketkeeper's and into the stands for six.

Here is how Ibrahim Zadran fell a few moments ago, picking out the fielder perfectly.

  14. Afg 87-2published at 20 overs

No real fireworks, but Afghanistan are gifted a single after some more sloppy fielding, this time from Maheesh Theekshana.

Four off the over in total from Angelo Mathews.

Sri Lanka have been so disciplined in the field but seem to have lost a bit of concentration over the last couple of overs.

Afghanistan are slightly behind where they want to be. But they have not lost any wickets and there's still plenty of batting to come. These two need build a partnership because their middle order has not really be tested yet. Their top order has been getting the job done.

  16. Afg 83-2published at 19 overs

Sri Lanka have been so tight in the field so far, but that was very wild by Dilshan Madushanka, who fielded off his own bowling before attempting a shy at the stumps that flies down to third man. Luckily for him there is a fielder down there and it only costs a single.

We have just seen a whiteboard showing how Afghanistan have planned their chase. By 20 overs they want to have reached 100, which means we need a very hefty over next up.

Sri Lanka are dangling the carrot here by bowling Angelo Mathews. If Afghanistan can hit Angelo Mathews out of the attack who is Sri Lanka's sixth bowler? Will either of these Afghanistan batters be brave enough to go and loft him over the in field? If they do that it puts the pressure back on Sri Lanka.

  18. Afg 79-2published at 18 overs

    This is quite canny.

Sri Lanka respond to that wicket by bringing Angelo Mathews back, presumably they looking to sneak a couple of overs from the veteran in while Afghanistan rebuild after the loss of that wicket.

Five runs come off the over, with the wait for a boundary stretching into a ninth over.

  19. Afg 74-2published at 17 overs

Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi strides out to the middle. How do Afghanistan respond here? They were looking comfortable to will not want to panic.

Dilshan Madushanka is 2-19 from his five overs so far. Very tidy stuff.

It's good bowling which cramped Ibrahim Zadran for room. It was banged in and all he could do is find deep third. I said earlier you needed to be play your trump cards and for Sri Lanka that is Dilshan Madushanka. He has rather gifted his wicket away. Sri Lanka have squeezed the Afghanistan batters in the past six overs and they got their reward.
