It's going over the top, Maxwell was going off. He can't believe that.

Remarkable. Glenn Maxwell started walking off as soon as he saw that it had pitched in line.

But he's got to go back because ball-tracking shows it was going over the top.

A sheepish smile from Maxwell as he remarks his guard.

Adam Zampa was halfway down the stairs, too!

  3. Australia reviewpublished at 21.2 overs

Big appeal for lbw as Noor Ahmad raps Glenn Maxwell on the pad.

The umpire raises his finger but Maxwell reviews. Where did it pitch?

  4. Aus 101-7published at 21 overs

    Target 292

No wicket but another good over from Rashid Khan, just three from it and two of them came after that drop.

Afghanistan are still three wickets away. It'll feel so close but yet so far for them.

Rashid Khan falls to the floor and does a forward roll in disbelief. That's how you show emotion, none of this bottling it up stuff.

Rashid Khan went for it, but he wasn't getting that. Hashmatullah could've caught that, he got there.

  7. dropped catch

Maxwell dropped on 24published at 20.1 overs

    Aus 100-7

So nearly number eight for Afghanistan - and it really should have been!

Glenn Maxwell gets a leading edge off Rashid Khan, the ball balloons into the off side but the bowler and Hashmatullah Shahidi both think the other is going for it.

Belatedly, Hashmat does and he gets a hand on it as he dives but it did not need to be so difficult.

  8. How's stat?!published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

Australia's lowest score in a World Cup match is 129. That was against India at Chelmsford in 1983.

  9. Aus 98-7published at 20 overs

    Target 292

Noor Ahmad rattles through another good over, just three from it.

Pat Cummins is out there with Glenn Maxwell and Australia need a minor miracle to win from here.

Australia are being blown away here. This is a hammering. It's making England's loss against Afghanistan look okay.

Incredible. Mitchell Starc didn't hit it.

The ball hit the off stump! Quite hard too but the bails stayed on.

Both lucky and unlucky in the same instance for Starc. Remarkable catch from the wicketkeeper regardless.

I don't think Starc knows what happened? Did it carry? Did I hit it?

This is absolutely extraordinary. I think Starc opens his blade and it just runs off the middle of the bat.

    WICKETpublished at 18.3 overs

    Starc c Alikhil b Rashid 3 (Aus 91-7)

That one is out! Fantastic reaction from Ikram Alikhil!

It's a googly from Rashid Khan that turns quickly to take Mitchell Starc's edge as he played back.

The ball bounces out of Alikhil's gloves but he responses brilliantly to dive and claim the catch.

Starc isn't sure if he hit it but runs out of time to review. He's gone.

It hits the ground next to the boot. It's the fact it hits the ground, the boot then goes so high in the air.

  16. Not outpublished at 18.2 overs

Not this time. It's a bump ball.

Easy decision for the third umpire in the end.

Rashid Khan is very confident and he took off after it.

  18. Umpire reviewpublished at 18.1 overs

This could be incredible! Rashid Khan thinks he's taken a brilliant caught and bowled after the ball bounced up off Mitchell Starc's boot!

    It's going upstairs.

    Thanks, Callum.

What a day this is turning out to be for Afghanistan!

Scrap that, what a World Cup this is turning into for Afghanistan!

  20. Aus 91-6published at 18 overs

    Target 292

There's no let-off for Australia at the left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad comes into the attack.

He puts plenty on each ball so could be a real handful on this pitch. Just two from his first over.

I'm going to disappear and write a report. Sam Drury will take you through the remainder of the game.
