Anyone else thinking we should have held off on awarding central contracts until after the tournament?

England will get a score higher than the last few weeks. It should be over 200.

Chris Woakes has sorted his helmet issue and he's off the mark with a single first up.

Chris Woakes is the new batter but he's got an issue with his helmet.

    Can we not please?

Both sides seem to be laughing.

There's a big shot from Moeen Ali, and he's been caught.

The ball hangs in the air, a great catch from De Leede.

That would have been hard to spot in the gloomy air.

Yeah, they won't be doing that.

Moeen Ali, getting bogged down, attempts the big shot but can only pick our Bas de Leede on the long-off boundary.

Moeen departs for four off 15 balls, and England are in danger of being bowled out again.

    Thanks Sam.

England will still think they can get more than 300 from here but it relies on Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali building a partnership and taking the innings deep.

  8. Eng 191-5published at 35 overs

Ben Stokes clobbers the ball out to deep mid-wicket but Max O'Dowd does well in the deep and is able to slap the ball back into play to save a couple of runs.

Anyway, having seen England go from moving serenely towards a huge total to threatening to collapse in a heap again, my work here is done. Callum Matthews will take you the rest of the way through the innings.

Gladiators and England making a meal of things in white-ball cricket. It's all very 90s.

The way that England play, free flowing, is great when it's going well. But there is no plan B. In this World Cup it's not worked.

  14. Eng 186-5published at 33 overs

Good over from Paul van Meekeren after he starts with a leg-side wide.

England's two left-handers are content to take a bit of time before, presumably, kicking on in the last 10 overs or so.

They look very well drilled the Dutch. I have to say that. Great fielding today.

Especially when he's your best white-ball batter on paper as well, Tom.

He has been horribly out of form but I just don't think dropping Jos Buttler is the answer for England.

He'll be a key player for this side going forward.

Part of the problem with England at this World Cup is that Jos Buttler has been the most obviously droppable candidate in the team, but you can't really drop your captain!

England were going ever so well when I started my stint. There was talk of 400-plus, a big hundred for Dawid Malan, Joe Root finding form.

It feels a long time ago now.

Moeen Ali is out to try and help Ben Stokes dig England out of this hole of their own making.
