  1. Afg 53-2published at 14 overs

Rahmat and Azmatullah take a single apiece from Coetzee's first two balls, but that's the end of the scoring for the over.

The players will take drinks - I think that's a little earlier than normal, but we've had various delays.

Lungi Ngidi is back on the field for South Africa which is very good news.

Afghanistan started well but they never really took the game away from South Africa, and that has allowed them to claw their way back in with three quick wickets.

  4. Afg 51-3published at 13 overs

Rahmat brings up the Afghanistan half century, turning Maharaj's final delivery away through square for two.

For me, Gerald Coetzee has got to play in the semi-final. He has done a fantastic job as the enforcer in the middle overs. His pace and aggression is making the batters uncomfortable.

  6. Afg 46-3published at 12 overs

New batter Azmatullah leaves the final ball of Maharaj's over, before only a single comes from Gerald Coetzee's over.

Afghanistan have gone from 41-0 at the end of the eighth to 46-3 four overs later.

I wonder if there is some lingering damage, emotionally, from that last game against Australia.

The middle order has got to step up now and prove themselves. Someone has to put their hand up. I don't think they will crumble as we have seen from them in the past, but it is coming to the end of a long tournament and this can happen.

Afghanistan sink into even more trouble. After a bright start, it looks like it is falling apart.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.5 overs

    Hashmatullah c de Kock b Maharaj 2 (Afg 45-3)

Oh no, it's another wicket down for Afghanistan.

Hashmatullah attempts to cut Maharaj away and the ball scuffs off the top of his bat and straight into the hands of a waiting Quinton de Kock.

How much impact has that Maxwell innings had on this side's mindset, with their semi-final chances effectively snuffed out?

Has Jonathan Trott been the most successful Englishman in this tournament? Is that too soon?

  11. Afg 41-2published at 10 overs

Consecutive wicket maidens for South Africa as Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah can't get Coetzee away.

Both batters are new and scoreless - not the end to the powerplay they would have wanted.

It's hip height and Zadran was trying to hit it for six.

He started beautifully but got stuck a bit in the last few overs, his feet were going nowhere and like he was stuck in glue.

I'm not sure about that big celebration though, not when you've burgled a wicket caught down the leg-side!

That was not a good delivery. It was short and wide, and Zadran has just helped it into Quinton de Kock's gloves.

    Afghanistan are in trouble now.

  14. wicket

    Zadran c de Kock b Coetzee 15 (Afg 41-2)

Now the other Afghanistan opener has thrown away their wicket!

Coetzee delivers a short ball that's heading down the leg side - Zadran follows it and succeeds only in lightly pulling it into the hands of wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, the ball taking the top of the bat or possibly a bit of glove.

Coetzee screams in delight and punches the air. A wicket's a wicket, I suppose.

He's whacked himself on the foot with his bat and has gone down in a heap. That can be very painful.

Yet another timeout. We're definitely going into extra time today.

  16. Afg 41-1published at 9.1 overs

Another delay as Ibrahim Zadran turns a full delivery straight onto his foot.

The physio is on and some sort of ointment seems to be being applied.

I can't see why South Africa have rested Marco Jansen. Against India, he was all over the place, it was like he had the yips.

Today would have been the perfect chance to get him back out there, get his confidence back up. Instead he has got a significant gap between matches and the semi-final is being played at the same venue.

Get the guy back out there, ball in hand, and he can put it right.

  18. Afg 41-1published at 9 overs

A wicket maiden for Maharaj, bowling to new batter Rahmat Shah.

A fine start, as you'd expect from the top ranked spinner in this format.

There was a hint of turn but the bounce has taken it off the top of the bat. But it was a nothing shot, he could have left it.

    Gurbaz has thrown that away.

It was nothing more than a tentative prod from Gurbaz. It was good captaincy keeping the slip in there to the spinner.
