    Gurbaz c Klaasen b Maharaj 25 (Afg 41-1)

Keshav Maharaj has a wicket with his first ball!

Gurbaz prods at the opening delivery and the ball takes the edge, Heinrich Klaasen takes the catch at slip, tumbling to his right.

Poor from Gurbaz, who was looking well set.

That was a pie, that deserved to go for four. Gurbaz is feasting on any width and there has been barely anything threatening his stumps.

South Africa aren't doing themselves any favours.

  3. Afg 41-0published at 8 overs

Well, Gerald Coetzee can't blame this over on his boots.

Gurbaz pulls him over the inner fielding ring - it's not a clean connection but the ball just about dribbles to the ropes. A better four follows, confidently lashing a wide delivery away through backward point.

He then finds three down past mid-on, before Phehlukwayo recovers.

I do enjoy Gerald Coetzee's headband. It's quite menacing.

  5. Afg 30-0published at 7.1 overs

Gerald Coetzee replaces Lungi Ngidi and his first over is stalled by the South African seamer having an issue with his bowling boot spikes.

It's a lengthy delay, with many of the South African fielders taking the chance to have a sit down.

Somewhere Angelo Mathews is fuming again about broken equipment and the consequences of time delays.

  6. Afg 30-0published at 7 overs

Lovely little shot from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, driving Rabada past a diving mid off and to the ropes.

Both Afghanistan batters looking in good touch here.

Afghanistan need to win by around 430 runs today and Pakistan need to win by 287 runs against England tomorrow to overtake New Zealand in fourth place.

I know that England have been bad but that seems unlikely. There will be some serious questions to be asked if that does happen!

  8. Afg 25-0published at 6 overs

Aiden Markram sends down three dot balls, with Afghanistan unable to take advantage of the part time bowler.

It doesn't look like he is in absolute agony, he is able to walk, and they won't want to risk him any further in a game that doesn't mean a huge amount.

The main thing for South Africa today is that they need to get a win batting second.

Lungi Ngidi is limping off. That is not good news.

  11. Ngidi off the field injuredpublished at 5.3 overs

    Trouble here for Lungi Ngidi?

He's crouched down holding his Achilles. The physio is on, and after some consultation Ngidi's walking off the field. Aiden Markram will complete his over.

No need to take any risks with a semi-final place already secured, but this is concerning for South Africa.

There was no expectation for South Africa to reach the semi-finals before the tournament, in fact they only qualified for it at the very last minute.

But now there is pressure and expectation so there will be criticism if they bow out in another semi. There is a big opportunity to do the rugby and cricket World Cup double and that would be very special.

  13. Afg 24-0published at 5 overs

Rabada responds to the six by reeling off five consecutive dot balls.

Is he listening to Test Match Special? That certainly wasn't as steady, that is a wonderful pick up for six!

Oh, welcome to the match Rahmanullah Gurbaz!

He'd only faced five balls so far in this game, but he takes the chance to make his mark here - heaving Rabada's first ball high over long on for the first six of the match.

It's quite steady. They've not really started like they are going to post a score of 500!

It's like these two openers have swapped roles today. Gurbaz is usually the aggressor and Zadran is usually the anchor.

  18. Afg 18-0published at 4 overs

A tight over from Ngidi is spoiled by a final ball that sits up for Zadran.

Bit of width too and the Afghanistan batter lashes it to the point boundary.

I thought it was hit into the ground initially but it was a half-chance. It would have been a spectacular catch.

It is technically a drop but more of a saved boundary, really!

  20. Afg 13-0published at 3 overs

    Oooh, touch of a chance!

Zadran drives Rabada uppishly and Keshav Maharaj gets one hand to it diving to his right at cover. It would have been a very smart take, but I've probably seen harder chances taken in this tournament.

Just the single from the over.
