    Blaze 200-8 v Vipers 0-0

The team batting second have only won one of the three previous Heyhoe Flint finals - that was Southern Vipers in 2021.

Ella McCaughan and Mai Bouchier are the Vipers openers and left-armer Grace Ballinger will bowl the first over for The Blaze.

    Here we go.

The Blaze 200-8 v Southern Vipers - between innings

The good news is that the earlier forecast suggested there will not be any rain in Northampton this afternoon, so hopefully the DLS method will not be needed to decide the winners of the final.

Will dropping Tammy Beaumont twice during her innings of 76 prove costly to Southern Vipers - or will they go on and repeat their win over The Blaze in the Charlotte Edwards Cup final earlier in the season?

The Blaze - in their former guise as Loughborough Lightning - were beaten in the 2018 Super League final. Are they about to lift their first trophy since the change of name and base?

"There were 22 extras, far more than the Vipers would want, with 17 wides. Will 200 be enough for The Blaze to win the Heyhoe Flint Trophy?"

The Blaze reach 200 off the final ball as they scamper back for two off Georgia Adams' last ball, surviving a run out appeal in the process.

Before that Kirstie Gordon and Josie Groves trade singles off the first four balls of Georgia Adams' final over.

Gordon then unleashes a huge heave which clears cow corner boundary for the first six of the final.

The skipper finishes unbeaten on 21 from 26 balls - a nice little cameo which takes her side to a 200 total which had looked unlikely at one point.

Josie Groves joins Kirstie Gordon at the crease.

The skipper takes a single from a bit of a hoik off Mary Taylor's second ball before Groves gets off the mark with one.

Gordon guides the next to third man for a single and Groves plays a nice straight bat to add one more.

A final ball is scampered for a single although Gordon would have been a goner with a direct hot. She'd given up.

Just six balls left for the Blaze. Georgia Adams to bowl it.

Sophie Munro makes a great start to the 46th over with a boundary to move through to 32. With a little help from a misfield inside the ropes.

But four balls later she's gone.

It's full and straight from Georgia Adams and she plays across the line. She doesn't stick around to see the decision. She knew.

The Vipers strike another big blow.

    Blaze 177-7 v Vipers

A rare two from Kirstie Gordon ends a string of dots and singles.

Gordon looks to hammer one to the boundary but great work from Georgia Elwiss denies her. An overthrow helps Gordon to another two.

Two more singles, you guessed it, to end the 45th over.

That's the end of Linsey Smith who ends 10 overs with fine figures of 3-30. A great day at the office.

    18 balls remaining.

    Blaze 170-7 v Vipers

Sophie Munro keeps the strike with a single off the last ball of Georgia Adams' seventh over.

Just three from it and Blaze hopes of 200 are receding rapidly.

    Four overs left.

Kirstie Gordon mistimes a Linsey Smith delivery up in the air, but it goes to ground for a single.

Just that and a single from Sophie Munro (24) in another tidy over.

The run rate is drying up when it needs to accelerate. Five to go.

    Blaze 165-7 v Vipers

A wicket maiden from Linsey Smith (3-21) - who becomes the Vipers' leading wicket-taker in this season's competition - piles more pressure on Sophie Munro to get things going.

She plays and misses at Georgia Adams' fifth ball but survives.

Skipper Kirstie Gordon is off the mark with a single.

Worth mentioning that Linsey Smith was a member of the Northern Diamonds team that beat Southern Vipers in last year's final.

The slow left-armer decided to return south following that victory at Lord's, having previously been in the Vipers side that won the Kia Super League in 2016.

A third wicket for Linsey Smith!

Lucy Higham tries an almighty sweep off Smith's first ball and feathers a catch to Rhianna Southby who took off the bails for good measure.

Seven down - will The Blaze see out their overs?

The Blaze's hopes now rest on Sophie Munro whose square drive beats boundary rider Emily Windsor for a much-needed four.

Two wides and five dots from a mixed bag of an over from Charlie Dean.

    Just eight overs left.

    Blaze 157-6 v Vipers

Linsey Smith's over goes for just three as the Vipers continue to squeeze.

Tammy Beaumont's wicket was a massive blow to The Blaze's hopes of posting a really competitive total.

But who knows what's competitive on this pitch until the Vipers bat?

"Tammy Beaumont has been the anchor, the backbone, the spine and they're going to have to do the rest of it without her. It looked like she'd decided to drop the hammer - unfortunately, she didn't hit the nail on the head."

    Blaze 154-6 v Vipers

    That's the big one!

Tammy Beaumont creams a straight drive back past Charlie Dean which whistles to the boundary.

But then she miscues another attempt to go big and it pops up gently to Georgia Adams at mid-off. Her 104-ball knock comes to an end.

It will be a big relief for the Vipers skipper who had earlier dropped a simple caught and bowled chance off the England batter.

The slow left arm of Linsey Smith is back after her early two-wicket burst, replacing Georgia Elwiss.

Tammy Beaumont leans on to the back foot and carves a nice shot down to deep cover point boundary for a single which brings up the 150.

This pair have put on 44 - the Blaze's highest partnership.
