  1. SA 27-2published at 9 overs

Aiden Markram arrives with South Africa in trouble. He takes a single to bring Van der Dussen on strike, and the number three tries to get a change of momentum going by driving for four through the covers.

What makes that ball even more difficult to play is the threat of the arm ball. I love this move by Rohit Sharma because the newer ball might not spin as much, but it will pick up more pace off the pitch.

There was no more foot movement from Temba Bavuma, who did not want to get his pad anywhere near that delivery.

  3. SA 22-2published at 8.3 overs

    Bavuma b Jadeja 11 (SA 22-2)

The change in bowling has an immediate effect!

Lovely delivery from Jadeja, fired through pretty quickly but turning to beat the bat of Bavuma and take the top of off stump.

South Africa have to target the second powerplay in those middle overs. They have paid too much respect to the India bowlers.

Not often you see Ravindra Jadeja bowling the powerplay so an interesting move from Rohit Sharma here.

  6. SA 21-1published at 8 overs

Maiden over for Mohammed Siraj to Temba Bavuma as India tighten the screw further.

India are going to bring Ravindra Jadeja into the attack.

  7. SA 21-1published at 7 overs

This time the two singles are in the middle of the over, as Bumrah sends down another tight set.

He's conceded just 10 runs from his four overs.

  8. SA 19-1published at 6 overs

A pair of singles bookend an uneventful Siraj over.

Without a doubt a subdued start from South Africa, but India scored extremely slowly at times in their innings - overs 10-20 went for 33 runs.

Temba Bavuma is very quick between the wickets, but it is very early in the innings to be running this hard.

  10. SA 17-1published at 5 overs

A first four of the innings for Temba Bavuma, timing Bumrah through the mid-wicket region.

Didn't seem to get much on it, but the ball seems to race away on this outfield.

He hustles through for a quick single, to make it five from the over.

The problem for South Africa is that after these two opening bowlers they have the challenge of Mohammed Shami and then the challenge of spin.

  12. SA 12-1published at 4 overs

Mohammed Siraj is keeping it tight to the South African batters and both players push balls away into the leg side for two.

At the moment it is like every second ball is a wicket-taking ball.

India have the best attack in the tournament and I think we are going to see that tonight.

  15. SA 7-1published at 3 overs

Jasprit Bumrah is straight into his groove, as you would expect.

Temba Bavuma chops the first delivery he's faced towards his stumps, but it runs for a single on this occasion. Bumrah then delivers five dot balls on the spin to Van der Dussen, almost taking his outside edge with the final delivery.

The South Africa physio was busy yesterday when a member of the South Africa media popped their shoulder out and he had to pop it back in. That member of the media was me!

  17. SA 6-1published at 2 overs

New batter Rassie van der Dussen sees off the final two balls of Mohammed Siraj's over.

Prior to be dismissed, Quinton de Kock had been in the thick of the action. He'd had the physio on after inside-edging onto his legs, then struck a four past mid-off.

    And now he's gone!

De Kock was looking to cut that back to deep third. Siraj got it to move back in just a touch and that's a huge wicket.

There'll be no century for De Kock today!

Mohammed Siraj picks up the wicket with his fourth delivery, seeing the South African opener looking to cut the ball away but only managing to chop a bottom edge onto his stumps.

A crucial wicket for India and immediate pressure on South Africa, who will have their struggles chasing in the back of their minds.

Andrew Watson: Let's not write off South Africa chasing. Their top two batters are excellent and they have big hitters below. It's going to be a classic against the great Indian bowling attack.
