  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9 overs

    Holder c Jacks b Ahmed 0 (WI 120-7)

Two in two for Rehan Ahmed!

The England leg-spinner gives it a bit of air and Jason Holder responds with a big swing of the bat, unable to resist the carrot which has been dangled.

However, the West Indies all-rounder pings it straight into the safe hands of Will Jacks at deep mid-wicket.

  5. wicket

    Rutherford lbw b Ahmed 36 (WI 120-6)

    Three reds.

It's a straight-ish delivery from Rehan Ahmed and the ball-tracking technology shows very little deviation off the seam. Going on to hit the top of middle.

    A big wicket for England.

  6. West Indies reviewpublished at 8.5 overs

"You have to give that out!" cries Phil Salt behind the stumps after Sherfane Rutherford is struck on the pad by Rehan Ahmed attempting a reverse slog-sweep.

He is given out, but reviews.

  7. 6 runs

    WI 120-5published at 8.4 overs

Andre Russell goes on to his heels and aboslutely mullers Rehan Ahmed on to the grass bank. A couple of balls later and Sherfane Rutherford dispatches the England leg-spinner for another six.

  8. dropped catch

Rutherford dropped on 29published at 8.1 overs

Rehan Ahmed is heaved into the leg side by Sherfane Rutherford.

Sam Curran races in and gets his hands to the ball diving forward, but shells the catch.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 7.5 overs

    Powell b Rashid 4 (106-5)

Adil Rashid completely flummoxes Rovman Powell.

The West Indies skipper plays all around Rashid's googly with a confused defensive poke and the ball bounces up to strike his off stump.

    Rashid calmly celebrates.

  10. WI 102-4published at 7 overs

Sherfane Rutherford makes it three consecutive fours via an agricultural swat over short fine leg then a top edge beyond the keeper.

West Indies pass three figures in just the seventh over of their innings.

  11. WI 92-4published at 6.2 overs

Jos Buttler chucks the ball to Rehan Ahemd.

Rovman Powell throws the bat his first ball and slices it, but the ball drops safe.

Ahmed is a fraction short with his next ball, dragging it down, and Sherfane Rutherford heaves him through deep square for four.

You can see the game from the wicket keeper position and can communicate well with others around. Jos Buttler does not need to be discussing with the bowlers constantly and is capable of having chats when necessary. In the end, skipper knows what he is doing best, and I'm not going to criticise his keeping.

  14. WI 87-4published at 6 overs

Jos Buttler is definitely making full use of little chinwags with the bowlers between deliveries.

Chris Woakes holds the pace off with his penultimate delivery of his second over but Sherfane Rutherford advances, picks up the length, and whips it through mid-wicket for four.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.2 overs

    Hope c Salt b Woakes 16 (WI 78-4)

Shai Hope elegantly strikes Chris Woakes over cover on the up. Pure class. But a ball later he's on his way.

This time the West Indies batter top edges a pull to an off-cutter from Woakes and he spoons it up into the gloves of wicketkeeper Phil Salt, who is left with a simple catch.

    Target 268

    The carnage continues.

Sherfane Rutherford carts Sam Curran into the stands with a monster six over long-off. Timing and power in that.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.1 overs

    Pooran c Brook b Curran 39 (WI 58-3)

Sam Curran strikes first ball - thanks to a brilliant catch from Harry Brook!

There's a bit of theme with West Indies' wickets - all mistimed big hits gone wrong. Another one which comes down with snow on, from Nicholas Pooran's bat this time.

Three fielders converge in the vicinity of the ball and it looks set to fall safe, only for Brook to dive full length forward and catch it a few inches above the ground. The Yorkshireman made up quite a bit of ground from long-on.

I like the idea of Phil Salt keeping wicket. When I was reflecting on these first few T20s, and the ODIs, especially when the ball was disappeating round the park I thought: "Could Jos Buttler benefit from being at mid-off and talking to the bowlers?"

You saw the game pause a few times when Sam Curran was being whacked and Jos had to run all the way from the wicketkeeping position which creates a sense of panic and the idea that people don't have a clear plan of what is going on.

Those little musings at mid-off between captain and bowler can be helpful so I'm glad Jos Buttler has done that.

  19. WI 58-2published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2023

Decent finish to the over from Reece Topley - three runs from it.

This will be a useful time for Jos Buttler, not behind the stumps this evening, to speak to his bowlers given they are taking a bit of a shellacking at the moment.

  20. How's stat?!published at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2023

Shai Hope averages 22.6 in five T20 international innings at the Brian Lara Stadium - the best average of anyone in this West Indies team at the venue.
