  1. 50 runs

50 for Phil Saltpublished at 8 overs

    Eng 91-0

The boundaries are flowing and it's getting quite hard to keep up.

Back-to-back fours take Phil Salt to a half-century from just 23 balls - not a bad way to follow his century from three days ago.

The first boundary is drilled through the covers, and the second a gloriously timed dab down to deep third.

Salt went unsold in the IPL auction today. A point to prove, perhaps?

  2. Eng 80-0published at 7 overs

We've had power, we've had innovation, but the two boundaries in this Gudakesh Motie over come from pure touch and timing.

Phil Salt easily tickles one for four down to fine leg before Buttler ends the over with a deft reverse-sweep to third man.

    Lovely.

  3. Eng 68-0published at 6 overs

Rovman Powell turns to a senior player in Jason Holder to try and finish what has been a brutal powerplay with a bit of control.

And he starts it well, with just six runs coming from his first five balls, before Phil Salt spoils his party with four more thumped through the covers.

Having been put in to bat, that is quite the powerplay from England.

Get Involved - should Buttler keep?published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2023

England captain Jos Buttler has relinquished the wicketkeeping gloves for this evening's fourth T20 international against West Indies.

What are your thoughts on this move? Would it help his captaincy to be stood at mid-on hatching plans with his bowlers at next year's World Cup? Or does it not matter?

    Salt 31, Buttler 27

    From bad to worse.

Two fours and two sixes in the over.

Firstly, some more leg-side filth is helped on its way for four by Phil Salt, before he crunches back-to-back sixes from the last two balls - one over square leg, the other straight down the ground.

Forde has bowled two overs for 34. Eek.

  6. Eng 40-0published at 4.2 overs

Matthew Forde hasn't had the greatest start to his international T20 career.

His first over costs 12, and starts his second by gifting Jos Buttler four runs with a delivery down the leg-side that is easily clipped off his legs.

  7. 6 runs

    Eng 36-0published at 4 overs

And how else to follow a complete mess of a shot? Reverse-sweep the next ball for six, obviously.

And conventionally sweeping the next for four.

    Jos Buttler, everyone.

  8. Eng 26-0published at 3.3 overs

Oh, Jos Buttler. You lucky man.

He plays a horrible shot off Akeal Hosein - who has got some awkward turn and bounce out there. Buttler tries to give himself some room to hit through the off-side but gets in a right tangle, skewing the ball just past the outstretched left hand of Rovman Powell at cover.

It races away for four, too.

  9. Eng 21-0published at 3 overs

After his expensive start, Matthew Forde is quickly whipped out of the attack and replaced by Kyle Mayers' medium pace.

He gifts Phil Salt a juicy half-volley that Salt clatters, but straight into the shin of Brandon King at cover. Nasty - one that has you flinching from the comfort of your own sofa.

Salt corrects himself though, launching four more through the covers two balls later.

  10. Eng 14-0published at 2 overs

The spin of Akeal Hosein pulls things back for West Indies with a tidy over, just two singles from it, cramping Jos Buttler for room with his accuracy.

Phil Salt anchored the innings the other day when England needed to keep up with the rate. You have to keep relieving the pressure by hitting sixes. Players like Phil Salt rely more on timing than their power.

    Eng 12-0published at 1 over

Yep, he's a man in form.

It takes Phil Salt just three balls to hit his first six of the evening, lofting Matthew Forde down the ground. And follows it with a thumping drive for four!

    A positive start for England.

And Phil Salt, fresh off his incredible century on Saturday, gets off the mark with a single.

The teams are out in the middle, shortly after West Indies bowler Matthew Forde is given his T20 cap for his debut.

And he's into action straight away with the first ball...

The win in the last T20 was a reminder to this England team what they are capable of. Over the past year they have lost their way a little but with that blueprint they can look forward the World Cup next summer with a bit of optimism.

England captain Jos Buttler on TNT Sports: "We would've bowled first. It looks a decent surface so we would have liked to chase.

"Execution is the key with the ball. They are a batting line-up with a lot of power but we've got to stay clear with our plans and that will be our mindset.

"This series is vital for us in the build-up to the World Cup. We have got a pressure game today which will be good for us, but the camp is in good spirits after that win on Saturday."

West Indies skipper Rovman Powell on TNT Sports: "We are going to bowl first because it looks a pretty surface. It's always nice and straight here so hopefully our boys can restrict them and then we'll get the runs.

"Matthew Forde comes in for his first T20 game for the West Inidies. Matthew is brimming with confidence. He had a lot of success in the ODI and hopefully he can bring that over to the T20s.

"We still have good plans for the English batters. We know at some point they are going to try counteract what we have done in the past few games. They are a quality team and have quality players to do that.

"We have come up with some new plans and hopefully they will work."

  19. West Indies win the toss and bowl firstpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2023

West Indies skipper Rovman Powell opts to bowl first and the beaming grin on his face suggests that was a good toss to win.

After a bit of iffy weather, we are set to start on time.

For England, Chris Woakes and Rehan Ahmed come in for Tymal Mills and Gus Atkinson.

There have been a few sprinklings of rain around, and the covers at the Brian Lara Cricket were on a little while ago, but the local forecast is pretty good overall so hopefully we will not have any major disruption to this evening's match.
