  1. Eng 175-2published at 14 overs

Phil Salt moves to 94 from 45 balls as he is joined by Liam Livingstone.

When you see England's batting line-up like this, it makes you wonder how they ever lose anything in white-ball cricket. When it clicks, it is phenomenal.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.4 overs

    Jacks lbw b Hosein 24 (Eng 173-2)

    Gone.

Three reds and England lose the review. Will Jacks looks frustrated but with his 24 coming from just nine balls, he has executed his role to perfection.

  3. England reviewpublished at 13.4 overs

Has Akeal Hosein got the breakthrough? Just one run comes from his first three balls before Will Jacks is trapped in front after missing a sweep.

It's given out on field but Jacks reviews, with a shrug, with seconds to spare.

England are absolutely flying in Trinidad, but they will have to still go some way to beat the highest men's T20 international score. Nepal walloped 314-3 against Mongolia at the Asia Cup earlier this year.

The match also saw Kushal Malla hit a 34-ball hundred, the fastest T20 international ton, and Dipendra Singh Airee the fastest half-century.

  5. 6 runs

    Eng 172-1published at 13 overs

    Salt 92, Jacks 24

Inside out, six more over cover! This is absurd.

Will Jacks joins the six-hitting party and that brings up the fifty partnership between himself and Salt from just 19 balls.

    Blimey.

  6. 6 runs

    Eng 165-1published at 12.4 overs

    OK, that didn't last long.

Phil Salt whacks his eighth six of the night.

  7. Eng 159-1published at 12.3 overs

Andre Russell pulls off the unthinkable.

    Two dot balls? Unheard of.

Forgot there's a game on. Get the notification that a wicket has been taken. Assume the game just started. Pleasantly surprised otherwise. Nice return to form for England.

    Ben in Newcastle

  9. Eng 158-1published at 12 overs

    Salt 85, Jacks 17

Even when they're not scoring boundaries, England's running is so good that they're able to keep running twos and there is no respite for the West Indies' bowlers.

Kyle Mayers is the only bowler with an economy of less than eight an over so far. And he's only bowled one over, so I'm not even sure if that counts.

  10. 6 runs

    Eng 153-1published at 11.3 overs

England's 150 comes up via a Will Jacks six (a reverse-sweep for six, I should add) in the 12th over.

    Yes, you read that right.

  11. How's stat?!published at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2023

This is the third T20 international to be played at Brian Lara Academy Stadium. The highest score made at the ground was the 190-6 that India made against West Indies in July 2022.

  12. Eng 142-1published at 11 overs

An over to forget for Sherfane Rutherford.

He does avoid being hit for six sixes in an over but I'm not sure that'll make him feel any better.

Will Jacks slashes four more past point, and that's 23 off the over.

  13. 6 runs

    Eng 137-1published at 10.3 overs

    It's three in a row!

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 131-1published at 10.2 overs

Well, Phil Salt isn't that bothered about Jos Buttler's departure.

Sherfane Rutherford drops one ever-so-slightly short and Salt launches it over square leg for six.

And pulls the next from outside off stump for the same result!

    Carnage.

Apart from maybe MS Dhoni I can't recall any recent successful white ball captains who have also kept wicket...

    Mike from Cornwall

Jos Buttler did skipper England to T20 World Cup glory in 2022 you will recall, Mike...

  16. Eng 119-1published at 10 overs

Will Jacks is in at three. He gets off the mark straight away with a two, and that takes England to halfway through their innings.

It's been a decent start, to say the least.

A reminder that England need a win here to keep the series alive.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.5 overs

    Buttler c Powell b Holder 55 (Eng 117-1)

And breathe. England's fun comes to an end (for now).

Jason Holder's canny changes of pace do the trick.

Salt and Buttler tick singles from the first four balls before England's skipper tries to whack a slower ball down the ground, and is caught at long-on by his opposite number Rovman Powell.

A brutal opening stand comes to an end. That was chaotic.

England should give Tom Banton the gloves and let Jos Buttler captain from mid on.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Jos Buttlerpublished at 9 overs

    Eng 112-0

    Wow. The onslaught continues.

Jos Buttler shimmies outside leg stump, and launches six more over cover.

And follows it with six over long-on to bring up his fifty from 26 balls.

112 in nine overs. Who on earth would be a bowler?

  20. 6 runs

    Eng 97-0published at 8.1 overs

    Yeah, this is chaos.

Phil Salt whacks the first ball of Gudakesh Motie's over for six over mid-wicket.

Another total of 200-plus seems inevitable.
