Make that two maidens in a row. It hasn't been very Bazball.

Mark Wood keeps charging in, banging the ball in but neither Axar or Jadeja are tempted.

    Another maiden.

Jack Leach is getting loose. How he'll be able to move with that left leg so heavily strapped is anyone's guess.

I suspect not, too, as Joe Root gets one to turn, bounce and grip past Ravi Jadeja's defensive prod.

The camera finds opener Zak Crawley, who is chewing some gum pensively and not celebrating too much at those signs.

The big question for me today regards the pitch is has it quietened down and become easier to bat on? I suspect not and India’s spinners will be extremely difficult.

    Ind 426-7published at 115 overs

Hello! Mark Wood digs in a bouncer and pins Ravi Jadeja flush on the helmet.

Wood checks if he's OK, to which he nods, but Jadeja gets a mandatory concussion test.

Jadeja passes it, and comfortably takes a single next ball to get off strike. That's the only real trouble that either batter has been in this morning.

At least the news of Leach’s knee is positive in that it is due to a knock in the field rather than soft tissue.

  8. Ind 425-7published at 114 overs

Joe Root whizzes through a maiden.

Axar Patel kindly picks out Jack Leach in the field, making England's spinner dive at mid-off and just test out that dodgy knee. He limps a little afterwards, but Root gives him a hug which I'm sure will make it all better.

Ravindra Jadeja has scored 871 runs in 16 home Tests since the start of 2018 at an average of 58.06.

Among India batters, only Mayank Agarwal (69.07) & Rishabh Pant (63.90) average more than Jadeja in the timeline.

Two runs from an over! Electrifying.

England's struggles in the past two days have been clear, but there is a lot to unpack from it.

Thankfully, Stephan Shemilt is on hand. From the difficulties of playing Test cricket away from home, the gulf in class between the two sets of spinners and England's preparation, you can read his analysis here.

And Root gets through one more.

Just the single from it. From these early signs, it doesn't look like India are setting up a declaration any time soon.

The 24 overs bowled by Joe Root so far in this innings is the second most he’s bowled in an innings in his Test career.

He bowled 29 overs against South Africa when he picked up 4-89 at Gqeberha in January 2020.

  13. Ind 422-7published at 111 overs

    Lead by 176

It's a bit early to judge that one yet, Ross. But I'm leaning towards the latter.

Anyway, that single is the only run to come from the over. Axar Patel ended the day with a six and two fours yesterday off Tom Hartley. He's made a slightly more measured start this morning.

Dedication or insanity waking up at this time to watch England in this position?

  15. Ind 422-7published at 110.1 overs

Ben Stokes and Mark Wood take an age to set their field.

But even after all that, Ravi Jadeja dabs to mid-off and sprints through for a cheeky single.

England opener Zak Crawley on TNT Sports: "I have loved it here, it is one of the things I love about Test cricket is going all over the world. I felt ready and prepared coming into this game.

"I've played in Pakistan and the conditions are similar here but it turns more. Pakistan was more about the reverse swing, the ball skidding on, but here we knew that spin was going to play a big part so that was a focus in my practice.

"We were surprised by how much it turned on day one, we thought it would be turning more yesterday. Hopefully we can use that today to get the three wickets.

"We will still look to play the same way, we will always take the positive option. If it's not the time for it, we'll play accordingly but we won't overcomplicate it and hopefully the runs come."

  17. Postpublished at 03:54 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

No one in this match has made a century yet, but is today the day? India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is going nicely on 81 as play resumes.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made 80 and KL Rahul 86, while Ben Stokes was the only England player to pass 50 when they batted.

We also know that Jack Leach is struggling with a knee injury which is why he hasn't done his usual hold-up-an-end job and Tom Hartley had to try (unsuccessfully) to fulfil it. Not ideal.

    Good morning!

Welcome to day three. How are your sleeping patterns by now?

Hopefully not as catastrophic as England's current situation. India resume on 421-7 in Hyderabad, already a lead of 175 on a turner.

We've seen them do some special things in the past 18 months. Let's see if they can get out of this one.
