Very, very hard on young spinners to get thrown the ball after 54 overs of rest. Mentally as much as physically, it is a lot to then ask them to bowl a team out.

And now England's problems are laid bare.

Tom Hartley follows that appeal with two full tosses to Rohit Sharma. Both are dispatched.

    England's hopes are fading.

  3. Ind 21-0published at 3.2 overs

Big appeal for lbw as Tom Hartley hurries Rohit.

Rod Tucker shakes his head and England decide against a review. It was missing leg, I reckon.

Bloke with 698 Test-match wickets and another taking five in the first innings. Neither getting the new ball. Bizarre.

Can't agree with Jimmy not taking the new ball here, man is a legend!

    Four more.

Yashasvi Jaiswal this time plays that risky sweep shot. He's in such good form he nails it.

India have been superb today don't forget.

If we bowl them out for 120, I'll take my cap off but that batting performance was pathetic under any label.

Supreme from Rohit Sharma. Nerves? What nerves. The India captain flicks one from leg stump to the boundary and casually jogs to the other end to stretch his legs.

And again! Same shot. Same result.

  10. Ind 4-0published at 1 over

Need 188 more runs to win

England have a mix of a field. They have a slip and a short leg but have to protect the runs too.

Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal both knock the ball into the deep.

  11. Ind 1-0published at 0.2 overs

Joe Root's first ball is good. His second is down the leg side and Rohit carefully knocks a single as the England fans sing Jerusalem.

Ben Stokes' first big call is to give the new ball to Joe Root.

    England are out there already.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma emerge a few moments afterwards to loud cheers.

Terry is confident, although I'm not sure he's being entirely serious. A sweep of the messages pouring into us tells me the mood is much more pessimistic.

It feels like England need to grab one tonight.

We've now got 2 1/2 (sorry Joe), really good spinners, a desperately difficult pitch, nearly 200 runs in the book. What's to worry?

England will have about 25 minutes to try and take a wicket (or two, or three) tonight.

Do India send out their usual openers? Do they ask Kuldeep to do some nightwatching?

Ashwin was always going have a say eventually. Opening the bowling was the key for him.

    England lost 7-35 from 110-3.

All they can cling to is that the ball started misbehaving in that period.

Inside six hours India have gone from a team that shouldn’t win this match to now a team that shouldn’t lose this match. It's been an incredible third day for the hosts so far.
