Now they link arms, both hands off the handlebars, and create a chain across the road.

Snap snap snap - the camera lens clicks and captures the moment.

Not all the Team Sky riders look comfortable riding hands-free. There's a few wobbles but everyone stays upright.

Team Sky are loitering at the back of the peloton, awaiting a photo opportunity.

It's like a wedding with useless ushers trying to find all the grandparents for the photos.

Finally they're all there, the yellow jersey man last to turn up - fashionably late.

The stage will start for real in a moment, but racing won't begin.

The party atmosphere and strolling pace will continue for some time as we head 80km from Chantilly to Paris.

There will be nine laps around the Champs-Elysees - including an intermediate sprint - culminating in a full on sprint for the finish. That'll be full of fireworks.

Chris Froome slips alongside the official race car and who's this popping his head out of the window? It's only five-time Tour de France winner Bernard Hinault.

The great Frenchman flashes a warm smile and extends a hand to the yellow jersey man.

Is that a sling push he gives Froome? (I josh).

The race motorbike holds up the chalkboard that usually displays time gaps - "Bravo & Merci A Tous" it has scribbled on it.

  5. Bardet banterpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 24 July 2016

Chris Froome's still having a good old chinwag with Romain Bardet - I daren't guess whether it's in French or English.

    Very cordial stuff.

It's very easy to forget that these riders barely get to say a word to each other in their individual Tour de France bubbles.

It's a much longer chat than Froome had with Quintana, mind.

Two number ones on the yellow jersey of Chris Froome. Back-to-back Tour de France victories for Chris Froome.

Chris Froome leads everyone out at a leisurely pace - we've not reached the official start of the stage yet.

Nairo Quintana sidles up alongside Froome for a quick chat. It might be something along the likes of "Chris, you're a good guy could you not let me win one of these, just once?"

And here comes runner-up Romain Bardet, a shake of the hand for the yellow jersey rider.

What a day for the man on the left of that picture below.

Adam Yates, in only his second Tour de France, will be disappointed to have missed out on a podium finish, but his fourth-place overall makes him the best young rider of this year's event - and for that he gets that gleaming white jersey.

    Quite an achievement.

And here we are, in Chantilly, four jerseys leading out the peloton - yellow, polka dots, green and white.

Chris Froome has the maillot jaune and the scores of people lining the route show their appreciation.

The backdrop of Chateau de Chantilly is breathtaking.

  10. Lot of lovepublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 24 July 2016

Expect Chris Froome to pay back some of the love shown to him by his Team Sky team-mates on the previous 20 stages.

The hard graft of the likes of Wout Poels will be rewarded with a nice group shot.

It is usual for the domestiques to get a slice of the winner's financial pie as well.

If you're just joining us, welcome to our coverage of the final stage of the 2016 Tour de France.

If you're new to this game, don't be afraid to ask any questions. For instance, you may be wondering how we still have a day of the race left, yet Chris Froome is being proclaimed the winner.

Well, it's customary for the yellow jersey holder not to be attacked on the final route into Paris. Theoretically, if Froome fell off his bike and couldn't reach the finish line, then we'd have a problem.

The only competitive racing will be in a sprint finish along the Champs-Elysees - it's a thing of beauty.

Chris Froome sees yellow, breathes yellow, feels yellow.

Today he is yellow. Time to bring it home.

Congratulations to Chloe Hosking, who has taken the first set of Parisian plaudits today.

Now it's time to retune, reset and refocus.

  14. Selfie timepublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 24 July 2016

Chloe Hosking had the wherewithal to take her phone to the top of the podium with her and asks Vos and Lepisto if they'd mind being in a selfie.

Not a bad photo. Wearing a winner's medal with the Arc de Triomphe in the background.

Here comes the podium presentation, which gives me an opportunity to tell you who came second and third.

Marianne Vos has showed she'll be as competitive as ever at Rio by finishing third, and the Finish sprint powerhouse Lotta Lepisto came second.

  16. 'To wear this jersey here was special'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 24 July 2016

Briton Hannah Barnes on ITV4: "Last year there were crashes but for different reasons. You need to always be in a good position in this race but I wasn't in any of the crashes.

"We had to make sure we were patient and only go with the moves that mattered.

"There's so many Brits - on the break I heard my name from the fans and to wear this national championship jersey here was pretty special."

And that interview ends abruptly with a shriek of "oh it's my team-mates" and Chloe diving off screen to the sound of screams and, I assume, a few hugs and (Wiggle) high fives.

La Course winner Chloe Hosking on ITV4: "To cross the the line first - I was like are they coming? They didn't come. It's crazy. I still haven't seen my team-mates.

"I think they came down in crashes, I want to know how they are. I had to go see my family. I think we're all in disbelief at the moment."

While Wiggle High5 celebrate their first victory on La Course, there are worrying scenes as a rider is put on a stretcher and carried into an ambulance. We'll let you know when we have more.
