Lizzie Armitstead's withdrawal is the third in a recent string of withdrawals from the world champion, who has suffered from illness in recent weeks.

She opted not to compete in the national road race championship and then had to pull out of the Giro Rosa with two stages to go.

All this means she can focus on the road race at the Rio Olympics next month.

La Course by Le Tour de France is the result of some valiant, strong campaigning by some of cycling's most successful women.

They wanted a race to go alongside Le Tour in Paris, and two years ago it happened for the first time.

And now the world's best flock to this thrilling event, that clips around the Champs-Elysees. It looks great and drama is guaranteed.
