Just looking at TV pictures of Porte being stretchered into an ambulance.

    Tour over.

So, still on the descent of the Mont du Chat - Warren Barguil still in the lead, Froome leading those chasing him and not far behind at all, 20 or so seconds.

This descent is totally treacherous - wet patches, dry patches.

"You have to be so, so careful," says Rob Hayles.

That Porte/Martin crash looked terrible. Porte went over the left side of the road on a bend, returned on to the road, flew straight across it with his bike out of control and smashed heavily into the wall.

    It looked terrible.

Dan Martin has crashed again apparently.

Fingers crossed he is OK, Porte is talking to the guy who is with him but I don't think he will be getting back on his bike anytime soon.

Warren Barguil's lead at the top of this stage is coming down all the time.

He is the only person in front of the yellow jersey group now - and has a 30-second advantage.

Nairo Quintana has lost 30 seconds to Froome's group already.

This is proving tough for Dan Martin, as well as Nairo Quintana and Alberto Contador.

Richie Porte is still with Chris Froome, as is Rigoberto Uran. Fabio Aru has clawed his way back. In fact there is about half a dozen of them left, Dan Martin clawing his way back.

"What an absolute battle," says Rob Hayles.

Fabio Aru will not have any friends with him out on the road. He is out of the saddle and trying to claw his way back to the main group with Chris Froome.

Nairo Quintana is losing ground, Fabio Aru is in a spot of bother.

More attacks. This time Chris Froome goes and he leaves bodies behind him all down the road.

It is very windy at the top of this climb - will this soon start to have an effect?

  18. Postpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Chris Froome, BTW, has no team-mates left with him. 1.3km to the summit of the Mont du Chat.

  19. Postpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Fabio Aru attacks again. Froome closes down.

Richie Porte attacks. Froome stays on his wheel.

The pace is relentless. Simon Yates starting to sturggle.

  20. Postpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Not far off the top of the Mont du Chat - with the fast descent to come. But with 28km left of what was supposed to be a race-defining stage, I'd have to say that it has not really been packed with A-grade drama.

Put it this way, Chris Froome, towards the front of the yellow jersey group, closing the gap all the time on those that remain in front of them, can probably be fairly happy right now.

That is, if he wasn't fuming with Fabio Aru after the Italian burst off the front when Froome had a mechanical earlier.

Alberto Contador slips off the back.
