Phew! That didn't matter much fortunately for Uran in the end as he recovers and rolls home in provisional seventh place, 31 seconds down on Bodnar.

That means a second-place finish in the Tour for the Colombian. A hugely impressive three weeks.

    Mikel Landa comes home.

Romain Bardet needs a time of around 30 minutes nine seconds to hold onto a place on the podium.

It's going to be extremely close.

Fabio Aru comes in just under the 30-minute mark.

That's a solid time trial for the Italian - he's actually gone faster than Dan Martin, who was struggling today and so keeps his position on GC for now.

Froome has just gone fourth at the second time check, three seconds down on Kwiatkowki's fastest mark.

A big finish and he could win the stage.

Simon Yates comes in about 1'30'' down on Bodnar but crucially he's beaten Louis Meintjes and will wear the white jersey into Paris.

Chris Froome is looking imperious, staying in the saddle up this climb.

He's done what he needs to do to win yellow as he crests the climb.

He just needs to stay upright now.

Bardet is shipping time - he's lost 56 seconds to Uran by the second time check.

So second place is gone - can he hang onto third? It all depends on how Landa does over the final stages.

Bardet needs to really attack this climb, the crowd are really urging him on.

He will not want Froome breathing down his neck.

Froome is onto the climb, as still as Bardet is swaying.

The Briton could even catch the Frenchman before the end of the stage.

Rigoberto Uran through the second check 21 seconds down on the fastest mark.

He's holding off Landa and reeling in Bardet.

The Colombian could well be second by the end of the day.

Mikel Landa goes through the second time check 33 seconds down on the fastest mark.

That's 17 seconds quicker than Fabio Aru so fourth is a definite for the Spaniard.

Will his ride be good enough for a podium finish though?

Team Sky principal Sir Dave Brailsford speaking to BBC Radio 5 live:

"There's a lot at stake but really when you break it all down there's nothing different about this time trial in its actual delivery than any other.

"This is one of the classic areas where you don't want to think about the consequence of what you're doing whilst you're doing it.

"Froome needs to use that 7km stretch down to the port to put the power down and do his thing.

"He can then hit the climb and he knows what effort he needs to make up there. He'll take no risks on the descent and bring it home.

"There's no doubt about it, this has been one of the toughest Tours to win. Whoever wins it will do so by a very narrow margin. It's been a hard battle."

A beaming Warren Barguil crosses the line, down in about 19th place.

I think he may have lost one place on GC to Alberto Contador.

Not that the Frenchman cares much - his two stage wins and a polka dot jersey making this a stellar Tour.

Chris Froome goes through the first check just two seconds down on Michal Kwiatkowski's fastest mark of the day.

That's 24 seconds quicker than Uran. Barring any disaster the Britain will wrap up yellow very comfortably.

Can he push on for the stage win?

  18. Uran second on GC as it standspublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 22 July 2017

Rigoberto Uran has gone through the first check 26 seconds down on the fastest mark.

Romain Bardet has just gone through the mark 45 seconds down.

The Frenchman is losing second place as it stands. Can he make that time back on the climb?

Dan Martin is approaching the second time check and looks to be struggling.

He's 1'12'' down on the fastest mark and is not doing enough to trouble Fabio Aru in the GC standings.

Contador has faded in the final sections - he will miss out on the podium.

A cracking ride from the Spaniard, though, as he flies home in fifth as it stands.

That could be enough to overtake Barguil in the GC.
