  1. wicket

WICKET: Charlesworth c Holden b Brookes 43published at 14:25 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 321-8 v Middlesex 203

Well, Henry Brookes is wicketless no longer!

A fantastic running catch by Max Holden at mid-off after Ben Charlesworth swings at a short one from Brookes and slices it.

That means the Gloucestershire batter is trudging off the field along with Ollie Price, who was acting as his runner.

Marchant de Lange replaces them both, so to speak.

  2. Postpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 192-1

Jake Libby and Gareth Roderick will have their eyes fixed on reaching three figures during the afternoon session, as well as eating further into the deficit that currently stands at 117.

Libby has 85 and Roderick 67.

  3. Back under way at Bristolpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 318-7 v Middlesex 203

Henry Brookes, who's wicketless so far in this Gloucestershire innings, is handed the ball to launch the afternoon session.

His first over costs four runs - a single apiece to Dom Goodman and Ben Charlesworth, along with two for a no-ball that was dug in exceedingly short.

  6. 'Excellent morning for Worcestershire'published at 13:47 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 185-1

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

    An excellent morning for Worcestershire.

In 19 overs this morning, 78 runs to the overnight score without loss, with Jake Libby moving sedately from his overnight 56 to 81 not out and Gareth Roderick rather more productive, going from 28 to 66 not out.

The weather is reasonably set for at least the next session, one would imagine.

  7. 'Frustrating morning for Somerset'published at 13:47 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 185-1

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

A frustrating, wicketless morning for Somerset: lots of playing and missing and the edges not going to hand.

For Worcestershire, Jake Libby and Gareth Roderick have defended with determination and put away the bad balls with style as well as efficiency.

Pity there haven’t been more than a handful of spectators here to enjoy it.

New Road, Worcestershire's home of County Championshop cricket since 1899, has been under water eight times this winter

After becoming the first ground in the country to get play today, more bright ground news for Worcestershire.

After this winter's eight floods at their New Road base in Worcester, the first two home games were switched to Chester Road, Kidderminster back in February, with a view to being back in Worcester by late May.

The long-term future at New Road remains less certain - but the Worcestershire groundstaff remain confident that they can stage the Central Sparks-Sunrisers womens game in the Charlotte Edwards Cup on 19 May, as planned, followed by the Pears' County Championship game with Nottinghamshire, starting on 24 May.

The T20s, also scheduled for New Road in May, can now also go ahead.

BBC Hereford & Worcester's Frank Watson: "There's one area of the outfield that they're still working quite hard on but given what they've had to cope with - eight floods - it's been a fantastic effort."

  9. 'An entertaining hour's play in Bristol'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 28 April

    Middlesex 203, Gloucestershire 314-7

    Ed Seabourne
    BBC Radio Bristol

The sky is getting a little bit darker for now but, at the moment, at least it looks as though it will remain dry.

It's been a pretty entertaining hour's play, just whetting the appetite for what's to come hopefully this afternoon.

  10. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 185-1

And they go to lunch in Kidderminster too.

19 overs bowled in an unexpectedly long morning session - a great credit to the Worcestershire groundstaff after none was expected at all.

    But no wickets for Somerset.

Just 78 runs added by last year's top Pears run scorer Jake Libby (81) and Gareth Roderick (66).

  11. Lunch at Bristolpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 314-7 v Middlesex 203

That's the end of this hour-long session, during which Gloucestershire have added another 43 and lost the wicket of Zaman Akhter, clean bowled by Tom Helm.

Helm has tested Ben Charlesworth with some swing outside off stump, as well as a sprinkling of short stuff, but the left-hander remains at the crease on 40.

Dom Goodman has nine to his name and Gloucestershire lead Middlesex by 111.

  12. Postpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 311-7 v Middlesex 203

A sense of relief for Dom Goodman, who registers his first runs by steering Tom Helm between the slips and gully for four.

Goodman collected a pair in Gloucestershire's defeat at Sussex last week, so he'll be pleased to contribute some runs this time - and they're valuable runs in terms of extending the first-innings lead.

That currently stands at 108, with perhaps three more overs left in this shortened session before we break for lunch at 13:30 BST.

  13. 'New ball starting to swing'published at 13:18 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 308-7 v Middlesex 203

    Ed Seabourne
    BBC Radio Bristol

It's reaching that stage where you expect the new ball to be quite lively. It's taken a few overs for it to start swinging.

Zaman Akhter will be pleased to have contributed 27, he's batted well.

  14. Postpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 304-7 v Middlesex 203

First bowling change of the day for Middlesex, with former Gloucestershire all-rounder Ryan Higgins replacing Ethan Bamber - technically, another ex-Gloster after his brief loan spell there back in 2019.

Higgins starts off with a maiden, but Tom Helm will keep tearing in from the other end to see whether he can build on that wicket of Zaman Akhter.

  15. 50 runs

Half-century for Gareth Roderickpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 160-1

Having earlier completed a century stand with Jake Libby, Gareth Roderick has achieved an individual landmark.

He breaks the Somerset stranglehold with a two, followed by a lovely four through the covers off Kasey Aldridge - the nicest of the eight boundaries in his 50, the South African's 47th in first-class cricket.

Bad news for the ball though. It ended up in a patch of water where the groundstaff had placed one of the wet cover sheets earlier.

12 runs off this costly Aldridge over - eight from the bat and two more no-balls.

Eight of them in this innings now, particularly expensive now that no-balls are worth two.

Libby is still on 74. Roderick is on 51.

  16. Postpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 148-1

Two maidens on the trot at Kidderminster - from Lewis Gregory and Migael Pretorius.

Slow going here. Jake Libby on 74. Gareth Roderick on 44.

Lunch will be at 13:30 BST incidentally, half an hour later than usual.

  17. wicket

WICKET: Akhter b Helm 27published at 13:01 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 304-7 v Middlesex 203

    Through the gate!

There's the wicket Middlesex have been desperately seeking.

Tom Helm brings a ball back at Zaman Akhter and it careers into middle stump to end the partnership of 66 with Ben Charlesworth.

Dom Goodman is the new man in for Gloucestershire.

  18. Second batting point for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 28 April

    Gloucs 300-6 v Middlesex 203

So far, so good for the home side as they tick off a second batting bonus point in the eighth over of the day.

Ben Charlesworth has just plundered another two boundaries off Tom Helm and he and Zaman Akhter have added 62 so far for this seventh wicket.

  19. Double bowling change at Chester Roadpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 28 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec, Worcestershire 148-1

After bringing on Kasey Aldridge, Migael Pretorius has now entered the Somerset attack.

  20. Play abandoned at Headingleypublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 28 April
    Breaking

Yorkshire 450-5 dec v Derbyshire 190-3 - no play on day three

The weather is the only winner on Sunday at Headingley, where there will be no play on day three between Yorkshire and Derbyshire because of the overnight rain that swept across England.

Yorkshire were in a decent position in the match following centuries by England duo Joe Root and Harry Brook, but the rain has severely dented any hopes of a home victory.
