No drama in this set - four routine holds.

Just as I say that, Smith produces a solid leg on throw, albeit it took him three darts at D12 to finish it off.

Crowd's a bit quiet now - are they saving themselves for the inevitable deciding set??

Peter Wright does seem to have quelled that Michael Smith surge.

You just sense Snakebite just has that extra experience and composure that will see him hold off Bully Boy even if he does hit more 180s. He knows when to strike!

    Tristan, Hook Norton

I backed 2 players at the start of the tournament - Smith and Wright, so sitting pretty but would love Smith to win. Saying that I still fancy Wright in a deciding set.

What a superb 72 checkout from Wright under pressure to win the eighth leg and level the match again. I have a feeling this match is going to go all the way...

  15. Wright levels up at 4-4published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Smith 4-4 Wright

John Hartson could be right, you know.

Smith misses a small opening to level the set, hitting 25 instead of bull.

Wright checks out 72 with treble 12 and then, after missing double 18, lands double 9.

What a rollercoaster final this is.

    Smith 4-3 (1-2) Wright

Well, Peter Wright wastes darts for the set and Michael Smith punishes him by hitting D20 to hold throw.

Advantage Snakebite in this set still but he might be a bit unsettled by those misses.

    Smith 4-3 (0-2) Wright

    Wright has found something here.

With 189 left he looked in danger of being broken back but he hits three treble 19s to leave double 9. He comes inside but hits single 1 and double 4 and is in prime position to level this match up once again.

  19. Wright breaks throwpublished at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2022

    Smith 4-3 (0-1) Wright

Michael Smith's dart at D20 was so close the crowd cheered thinking it was in.

    But it wasn't.

Peter Wright's reply was, though. Big break for Snakebite at the start of set eight.
